AIBU to ask for work trousers that feel like wearing track pants/leggings?

Help me!

Returning to work after mat leave and need the perfect comfy and forgiving work trouser. Need to be:

  • Smart casual
  • Have some stretch
  • Not a thin fabric
  • Suit a chunky thigh and bum and recent mum tum
  • Ideally under £60

I’d be wearing them with jumpers and a chunky boot (the wilds boot from celtic & co).

Recommendations for the perfect work midi dress (with a wrap, tie or belt waist) that doesn’t require ironing also welcome ;)

Honestly, I know I'm probably uncool, but I love M&S for this - I have two pairs of stretchy legging-style work trousers and I think they were both below £30.

Thelnebriati · 02/02/2023 14:16

They look better on imo, they do have pockets but they are a bit small for my liking.

You might prefer these ones, the fabric is thicker;

These M&S jersey straight leg trousers - I'm wearing them right now, and they're great! Usually wear them with an M&S merino sweater and canvas trainers. I also have these M&S straight leg trousers with stretch which are also really comfortable, more of a suiting type material so good with ankle boots/leather shoes.

TenInSport · 02/02/2023 14:30

Not sure what shape of trouser you want, but I live in these: www.marksandspencer.com/jersey-wide-leg-trousers-with-stretch/p/clp60506499?color=BLACK

The material is fairly thick and they are stretchy and pull-on. They also wash well and dry quickly.

Sleepyteach · 02/02/2023 14:33

I have a pair of these and they are soooo comfy. they are f&f (Tesco) and my local Tesco had a few different colours the other day.

Saw these the other day - thick material and smart looking

Following as I will also be returning to work from mat leave soon after living in leggings for months. @LIZS those Uniqlo trousers above look great, don't suppose you'd know which size would best equate to a 12? Never ordered from Uniqlo before!

LIZS · 02/02/2023 14:38

Probably medium. There is a fit-finder to help.

Not sure about trousers, but for flattering and comfy midi dresses look at Seasalt. I buy my Seasalt dresses secondhand from Vinted as I can’t afford them new - they last really well though.

Another vote for the M&S range here

MaverickGooseGoose · 02/02/2023 14:51

M&S here too, I'm liking the ankle grazer
Ones with my Nike blaze. My office isn't very corporate post covid.

I came on to say these! I have them in grey and am wearing them right now. Nice and stretchy, elasticated waist (Grin) but look like work trousers.

Also these www.marksandspencer.com/jersey-checked-tapered-trousers/p/clp60548201 - feel like PJ bottoms!

KangarooKenny · 02/02/2023 16:16

M&S. lovely and stretchy.

FinallyHere · 02/02/2023 16:22

I live in these, so thick, warm and comfy. Easy to dress down with trainers or up with ankle boots.

Dartmoorcheffy · 02/02/2023 16:24

I get bootcut yoga pants from peacocks. £12 and are so comfy.

I found the holy grail of black work trousers recently. £16 from Nutmeg (Morrisons). Jersey-ish, heavy fabric, stretch, lots of room for mum tum and hips, doesn't cut in.
Has a decorative zip at the top on one side if that helps.
Decent pockets too.

camperjam · 02/02/2023 16:31

The m&s wide leg ones mentioned up thred are amazing. Perfect material and look smart but are so comfortable. And only £17!

Dogsgottabone · 02/02/2023 16:31

The marks and Spencer side stripe trousers.

I work in a school. Have three pairs and wear them with trainers. Love them.

Dogsgottabone · 02/02/2023 16:32

Mine are the £29.50 ones and I've been wearing them since october and they wash brilliantly. The dog tooth ones are my favourites.

Yep m&s here too. They have lots of different cuts, and I found a pair that were very comfortable but had the appearance of being quite tailored.
