If your medication was due on Monday what day would you order it?

My sons repeat sleeping medication is due on Monday I tried to order it today as I assumed the general rule is 48 hours for dr to approve and around the same for the Pharmacy, it was rejected for ordering to soon! My drs are closed on weekends. Did I really order too soon? If your medication was due on Monday when would you put the order through ?

Yeah I'd do it today. Bit odd really- is it quite a restricted drug?

SaltnPeppaPig · 02/02/2023 09:22

That is strange, I'd usually order a week or so before to make sure I don't run out!

Shoot4theMoon · 02/02/2023 09:22

It’s zoplicone?

We’ve been told round these parts to order it a week in advance 😱

NannyR · 02/02/2023 09:23

The online system I use has a date by which you can reorder next to the medication, but generally it works out as two working days between ordering the repeat online and collecting it from the pharmacy.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/02/2023 09:23

Well here it would have to be two weeks before you needed it as both the GP and the pharmacy are so overstretched. If something is very urgent we can call the prescription team to get it done immediately though. Does his medication actually run out on Monday?

Shoot4theMoon · 02/02/2023 09:24

@NannyR so it’s 48 hours in total from when ordering?
vut I guess I’m still not far off as weekends don’t count so 48 would be Monday…. I think

@Judashascomeintosomemoney Sunday he will run out and not have a bedtime dose for Monday

I always order repeats a week before. This is because my surgery has been undergoing changes to staff etc and it takes them ages to sort it. One of my meds is a schedule 3 controlled drug.

MrsGhandi · 02/02/2023 09:25

We have to order ours at least a week in advance to allow the dispensary to cope.

Changingmynameyetagain · 02/02/2023 09:29

In my pharmacy we ask for 72 hours so I’d have ordered it today,
Just to warn you though there’s a shortage of Zopiclone at the minute so I’d check your pharmacy has some in stock, we ran out 3 weeks ago.

Shoot4theMoon · 02/02/2023 09:57

@Changingmynameyetagain oh no I hope they haven’t here we other once a month so it’s been 4 weeks since I last ordered this was our first month on this since his other meds have stopped having an effect

To guarantee it we have to reorder when we collect our prescription, so two months in advance. If not at least one week before and then it won't be guaranteed.

JingsMahBucket · 02/02/2023 09:59

@Shoot4theMoon call it into the GP and actually talk to someone. Or, if you can skip the GP, directly call it into the pharmacy and talk to someone. They'll figure it out for you.

Unbridezilla · 02/02/2023 10:00

This se3ms to be trust related. I used to order my pills a few days in advance. Any longer and I was told it was to early and to call back later. So I when I moved, I did the same and was told off for not giving them a week's notic

Peachi82 · 02/02/2023 10:00

Probably 2 weeks before with the speed our surgery and especially our pharmacy is working...

tuvamoodyson · 02/02/2023 10:02

5-7 days. Notice is up in our pharmacy telling us this.

Ohifyouinsist · 02/02/2023 10:03

I think this will be due to the fact it's zopiclone rather than anything else. GPs are very reluctant to prescribe it in general so they may want to make sure that he won't have any 'spare'.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 02/02/2023 10:05

A week before it is due. This includes dh morphine tablets and liquid.

Spotsstripes · 02/02/2023 10:06

We have 3 of us on multiple medications so I order a week in advance because even if GP'S turn the prescription around in 48hours it can sometimes take a few days to get medication in at the moment with shortages etc. Do you order on the nhs app as if so there's a comments box you could add that ds will run out of meds by Monday hence ordering today? If not I'd ring up and explain.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 02/02/2023 10:07

Ordering after today would probably mean you'd get it Tuesday atctge earliest!

I'd call and query it.

Laiste · 02/02/2023 10:10

I'd order it Tuesday'ish for the following Monday.

Can you go and speak to the pharmacist and explain?

Hedgehogproblems · 02/02/2023 10:11

I do mine a week before. Gives a couple of days for GP to approve then a couple of days for pharmacy.

starfishmummy · 02/02/2023 10:38

Our GPs are signed up to a central prescription ordering service. At the moment we can only order 7 days in advance - doctors contract is that they will sign and send it to the pharmacy within 48 hours and the service assume there is plenty of time. But they dont take weekends or pharmacy delays into account. I just lie a lot and say we are going away so need it early to take with us.

Badbadbunny · 02/02/2023 10:42

I order at least a week in advance. It takes the GP surgery 2/3 days to issue it and then takes the pharmacy 3/4 days to prepare it.
