Bastard energy companies & government

She'll just announced record profits and British Gas breaking into people's homes to force for prepayment meters despite signs children and disabled people were living there.

Just fucking appalling.

Why are people not ACTING about the energy bills they are being forced to pay?!?

Totally agree
I remember when gas belonged to all of us, via the gas board
Selling it was supposed to lower bills, increase customer service and give people a choice
Bastard government

Babsexxx · 02/02/2023 07:37

Not to mention them robbing people blind I wasn’t even in my home for 10days only plug left on was the freezer, but according to my metre I used £67 in energy that 10 days complaint raised they are still trying to “address the issue”.

And I am on a usage tariff.

00100001 · 02/02/2023 07:39

It does make you wonder how they're allowed to "get away with it"

Ostryga · 02/02/2023 07:40

Because it’s the Tories. Why are people still surprised?! They are raging cunts and have been for decades.

LaurelGrove · 02/02/2023 07:41

I just heard the CEO of British Gas on the radio. Smug and cold. It was horrible and I'm not at all an anti-capitalist. He spoke at one point about wanting government to step in on something; they need to regulate the fuck out of energy companies' ability to profit from heating people's homes.

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/02/2023 07:46

Forcefitting of pre payment meters for debt has been going on for years and years. An organisation I worked for did some work on it 12 years ago and no one in the press or government gave a shit at that point.

Good to see it finally make the headlines.

Eleganz · 02/02/2023 07:54

The problem is the energy companies are massive and cover a huge part of the upstream sector as well as retail. There is a huge amount of regulation but all it has achieved is energy companies moving profits to the part of their operations that can't effectively be regulated (i.e. further upstream). Technically the retail market can'g make big profits which is why many of the retail-only companies failed when energy prices soared, the big companies are making their profits from upstream supply and trading instead. Windfall taxes hardly touch the sides.

We don't need regulation we need nationalisation.

Uselessname · 02/02/2023 07:55

Absolutely disgusting. I think sadly in this country people will put up with anything so nothing will change

Zebedee55 · 02/02/2023 08:00

Meters installed for non-payers is nothing new - it's gone on for decades.

It all seems punitive, but no one seems to have a solution for how energy companies get paid if the customers can't pay direct bills/direct debits and now can't be forced to have meters.

Energy companies are private companies and won't allow themselves to lose the money - so who is going to pay them if the customer can't/won't?🤔

CalistoNoSolo · 02/02/2023 08:02

People voted for this shitstorm. The tories have been espousing free market economics forever. Shit in our rivers and seas, mass shellfish die off due to unregulated dredging, out of control energy prices, dreadful/non-existent public transport, failing education system, failing nhs.... this is all the result of voting for the tories.

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/02/2023 08:17

@Zebedee55 other customers mainly. That is what happens in water.

Ostryga · 02/02/2023 07:40

Because it’s the Tories. Why are people still surprised?! They are raging cunts and have been for decades.

My thoughts exactly.

Nolosomi · 02/02/2023 08:30

The government won’t do anything. They want the rich to remain rich and get even richer at the cost of the poor. It’s not rocket science, just don’t vote for them next time. It’s disgusting but people keep voting the fuckers in.

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/02/2023 08:39

There is still the issue of how to deal woth debt in the energy sector. For a long time pre payment meters were thought to be kinder and better option. Back in the old state owned days if you couldn't pay they just cut you off.

There are a number of possible options:

Ban pre payment meters and deal with debt another way - eg increase CCJs and bailiff activity.

Ban pre payment meters and don't increase debt collection activity and get other customers or tax payers to deal with the bad debt burden.

Re introduce disconnection for debt.

Introduce load limiting, so people in debt get less power - say just enough for heating and lighting.

Take the lowest income people out of the market and force energy companies to offer cheaper social tariffs - subsidised by the government.

None of these options are without consequences or downsides. But I think something does need to be done.

The longer term solution is a massive government backed and organised programme of energy efficient improvements and moving to low carbon, renewable energy - get those nuclear power stations built.

This is entirely the reason. The rich cunts with all the money want to hold on to all the money. They manipulate the tax regime so they hold on to all the money. The rich cunts also own the mainstream media, so when it’s election time they can convince us poor plebs that voting for anybody who wants to aim for a fairer distribution of wealth is out to rip us off.

Cherry60 · 02/02/2023 08:50

I heard Corbyn being interviewed yesterday about the strikes, talking a lot of calm rational sense about the cause of people's struggles - the greed of energy companies being a huge part of it and reminder that in France they took them back into public ownership. No chance of that here.

Welshy26 · 02/02/2023 08:57

And the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. What a time to be alive.

Completely agree. People are moaning about all the strikes currently taking place but workers are fed up with having the piss ripped out of them

No, Labour will go get in. But how much will Starmers Labour do to help?

ThatEdgyCoralWriter · 30/07/2024 10:47

It's time for a reality check, folks. It doesn't matter which government comes into power. It has always been the will of Whitehall, and these actors that you vote for in a general election are the pretty mask while the body of the UK government stays intact. The untouchable political parties, the Conservative conners and the Labour land grabbers are the only parties endorsed by Whitehall since Memorial. Your vote means little to them unless it's a marginal seat, the outcomes are assured, it's all rigged, and you haven't got a clue!

As for Energy companies, many of the new green energy were created to fail, and the taxpayer bailed them out to the tune of billions to raise tax revenue for the government while stealing from its people. This was legislated in Parliament to allow green energy companies, now known as the Green Energy scandal, to be on top of 50 other scandals the government has implemented over the past ten years. And you still vote for them and give them praise. Sorry did I say government I should have said Whitehall.

And now, for the cream, AI is being used to target people, so if you write anything online, you will be discovered, and a means to break you will start. It's 1984, predicted by Orwell, and it's happening right now, and there's nothing you can do about it. Unless people take back power outside of the norms created for us.
