Dentist

Get Zapain from GP for the pain

user764329056 · 02/02/2023 01:43

Knew this would be about teeth from the heading, totally sympathise, would have gladly decapitated myself when I had tooth abcess, indescribable pain, sorry for you OP

thaegumathteth · 02/02/2023 01:57

Are you sure it's not infected?

m1s · 02/02/2023 05:22

Yes it's infected. Having it out today thank god. Never ever been so happy to go to the dentist. Think my body just decided to ignore the pain and let me sleep for 3 hours

Best of luck for today, @m1s

DP went through this a few months ago and he’s all mended now.

He did take painkillers for a few days afterwards, paracetamol I think.

m1s · 02/02/2023 05:29

Thank you! It's awful. Wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy. I'm taking regular painkillers at the moment which are having zero effect on the pain (not quite sure why I'm still taking them tbh) so as long as they work afterwards I'm not fussed about having to take them. How long did it take for his gum to heal?

OP posts:
3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff · 02/02/2023 05:32

Oh op, same as you!

I've just nipped to the petrol station for painkillers, no Ibuprofen just paracetamol and I'll could have tried. Iv just taken three and I'm getting some relief. Have you tried clove oil, you can get it in th pharmacy for a couple of quid. I'm also on antibiotics that I ordered from superdrug online. They give them for BV but I'm using them for a toothache. If you're in Dublin I'd gladly drop some clover oil to you.

I'm up all night and have to be up in an hour for work, feel like crying.

3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff · 02/02/2023 05:36

Did any of that make sense, I'm out of it from lack of sleep. This is day five for me, I'm trying to get into the dentist tomorrow, €75 for an emergency appointment and then usual fees will apply.

It's so expensive to go to the dentist that for me it's a luxury!

m1s · 02/02/2023 05:41

@3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff oh I'm sorry to hear you're in pain too. It's awful isn't it. The dentist saw me last Friday and didn't want to give me antibiotics because of where the infection is it wouldn't have any effect or something? I've tried getting clove oil but nowhere had it in stock but I'm not sure it would work anyway because the pain is coming from the root of the tooth rather than a cavity on the surface. Could be wrong but couldn't get any anyway so just gave up looking.
Have you got an appointment with the dentist to get it taken out?

OP posts:
m1s · 02/02/2023 05:43

@3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff ahh just saw your second post. It's bloody expensive isn't it but would happily pay to get rid of it

Hi again, luckily DP healed up very quickly afterwards. He followed instructions (salt water etc) for once! It was fine after a couple of weeks; never mentioned again.

He can’t take ibuprofen so stuck with paracetamol but you can have both in your armoury, and as pp says you can take three ibuprofen in extremis, plus codeine.

3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff · 02/02/2023 05:47

I feel terrible, the other night I took 4000mg of paracetamol in just a couple of hours by I gave no shits and would have welcomed death at that point!

I'm trying to get an appointment for tomorrow but will pay a fortune for an emergency appointment, if they ask me what I haven't come in sooner I'll remind them if their price list.

Mine has dulled down a bit now but now but stabs me every so often the little bastard.

Ihatethenewlook · 02/02/2023 05:50

Also knew this was going to be about toothache! I had my wisdom tooth ripped out yesterday after 4 months of agony. (No nhs dentist and had to save up £170 to get it out). It was a really hard extraction, almost had to cut into the bone, I didn’t even think they could do that in a dentists, only a hospital? Anyway it’s out now. It’s really sore and swollen when the paracetamol wears off so I’ve been waking up in the night and having to take more. The pains nowhere near as bad as it was though and at least the painkillers are working now, I think it’s just the swelling that’s sore. She did say it was infected yesterday, I’m happy to have a dentist that’s willing to rip out an infected tooth and just give you anti biotics later if you need them.

I was throwing up blood a few nights ago. Apparently I’d taken so much ibuprofen over the last few months I’d caused a stomach ulcer :/

I was meant to say good luck for today op, you’ll have a good nights sleep tomorrow x

m1s · 02/02/2023 05:56

@AutumnCrow thanks. Glad he had a fast recovery afterwards. Hoping for the same. So worried about dry socket so will be taking extra care

@3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff I had an ice pack on my face the other night which helped take the edge off but didn't work after that. It's so much worse when lying down so decided to sleep on the couch sat up last night. Made no difference whatsoever. Think it just flares up when I'm relaxed. Mine is my very back molar and will get pain travelling across all my back teeth on that same side and then it goes to my upper tooth at the back. Very strange as it's quite specific where it's hurting but there's nothing wrong with that one apparently. Feels like someone sticking a hot knife into my tooth/gum. Ahhhh so fed up of it

OP posts:
3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff · 02/02/2023 08:42

Oh yes op, no to lying down, it's so much worse isn't it. I'm just awake after a couple of hours sleep and I have to get ready for work 😭

What time is your appointment?

You're nearly there now!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/02/2023 08:45

I see you are having it out today but for others who are suffering can I recommend OraJel. its not cheap but it does take the edge off, you need the 20% extra strength stuff.

m1s · 02/02/2023 12:22

@3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff currently numbed up and sat back in the waiting area. What a bloody relief. Hope you manage to get sorted soon 💐

I really feel for you, three nights ago I was awake all night on the bathroom floor with severe toothache, only to go to my long awaited dentist appointment for them to tell me it would be another month before they could fit me in for a root canal or extraction Confused I ended up travelling 2 hours that night to a private dentist. He scraped the necrotic nerve out and a temporary filling over the top. Sounds similar to what you're going through! I can't tell you how relieved I was once the pain was gone. Good luck for today!

frayble · 02/02/2023 13:04

For anyone else going through the same, I highly recommend Scott's Arms Dental Practice in Great Barr, Birmingham - gave me an appointment for 2.5 hours after my initial call and it cost £142.99 - well worth it to be out of pain and not waiting a whole month for an appointment with my normal dentist!

mrsbyers · 02/02/2023 13:37

Glad you’ve had it sorted - I had back molar out on Monday and so relieved !

m1s · 02/02/2023 14:18

All out in about 2 mins. Tooth was in really good condition but obviously the issue was inside of it.

Thanks all for your well wishes.

@mrsbyers glad you got sorted too. How has the recovery been? I'm still numb so just waiting for it to wear off before the soreness starts. Hopefully nothing like the pain I've been having

It’s been fine , bit tender today but in terms of pain very little - have been taking pain relief just before bed and that’s it

3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff · 02/02/2023 21:29

How are you doing op, hope you've got a new lease of life now that the God awful pain has gone. Mine has died down a good bit thank fuck

m1s · 03/02/2023 22:18

@3kidswouldfinishanyoneoff sorry been a busy day at work. I don't want to rub it in but I slept like a baby last night. Not had to take any pain killers. Just taking ibuprofen at night in case it feels tender when I lie down. Did you manage to get in at the dentist? How have you been today/last night?
