To not want people to touch my bump

I'm just over half way through my pregnancy.

People keep touching my bump. They don't ask, they just come up and start rubbing my belly going "aww!". Stood at the photocopier, sorting my lunch out. I do step away however I don't have the confidence to say "please don't do that". My bump is quite uncomfortable and tight too at the moment.

I'm not a touchy feely person when I'm not pregnant and I'm avoiding people now to avoid being touched!

YABU - people should be able to touch my bump without asking

YANBU - people should ask or just not do it

You can’t seriously be debating this with yourself?!

WeWereInParis · 01/02/2023 21:46

Obviously you are not being unreasonable.

Reach out and touch their stomach in return.

Outandover · 01/02/2023 21:49

I only ever had this happen once but I would absolutely say please don’t touch my body if it had happened again.

Ludo19 · 01/02/2023 21:50

Oh god I'd hate that. It's different if it's your partner but not work colleagues. Start rubbing fat Alan's (or whatever middleaged paunch is there) and go awwww, tell them you are not Buddha and to kindly fuck off

EVHead · 01/02/2023 21:51

Tell them. Find the confidence. Your body, your rules.

People do this to me all the time too. Sadly I'm not pregnant.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 01/02/2023 21:54

This is so gross when people do this!

Bark at them like a dog, they’ll soon back off 😂

Touching your bump is very rude and disrespectful. But it's even worse when baby is here and they pass her around like a doll.

Craftycorvid · 01/02/2023 22:22

I think it’s both rude and bizarre! Maybe pat some paunches with the words ‘ah, I’m pregnant. What’s your excuse?’

KimberleyClark · 01/02/2023 22:25

YANBU. I wouldn’t dream of asking someone if I could touch their bump much less actually touch it.

LimeTwists · 01/02/2023 22:32

Just because there’s a baby underneath, it doesn’t mean that they can reach out and touch your bump without asking! I’d visibly recoil and tell them you’re fed up of people lunging at you! Somebody needs to be the first to tell this (currently 11% of the voters on here) group of people with no sense of personal space that it’s not acceptable or they’ll just keep doing it.
