I'm sure I will get NAMALT, Not all firefighters/police/etc but willing sharing and commenting on WA group doesn't point to a 'bad egg' it points to a culture where this behaviour is seen as acceptable.

Even in death women are viewed, by those that are meant to protect us, as no more than wank fodder.

I read this. I was also thinking of posting it. When posters declare all the men they know as decent, is does make you wonder what they are basing that on. I watched an old crime documentary and the murderer was ruled out because he was married with a full time job, just like the Yorkshire ripper and Fred West. The bar is really low for men.

I also remember the thread about the 16 year old being sexually assaulted after death and a poster saying how we aren't safe even in death. Quite a few posters called her ridiculous.

It's all coming out of the woodwork now. This problem is widespread and systemic. For decades the uniformed servies have provided a convenient cover for misogynistic and predatory men, while their superiors and the Government turn a blind eye. Why have those in authority been turning a blind eye? Institutional misogyny? Fear that any action would undermine trust in their authority? A power kick? Who knows. I'd love to hear why from Cressida Dick etc

A really good and incisive comment on another thread about this:

If men can get away with something, many men will do that thing.

This is why men do not, ever, belong in women's and girls' spaces. No matter what they think/feel/want, they should not be in intimate quarters with women and girls. PERIOD.

And NAMALT has absolutely no relevance to the issue. Many men ARE like that.

(not to derail, sorry, but worth mentioning here)

Not a derail at all, rather a sad reflection on the reality of our society
