To think you really cannot better your life unless you're willing to love yourself?

Hope the title makes sense. A few times in my life I've had no choice but to really love and believe in myself and whenever I do, I'm always surprised by how drastically my life improves. Somehow I always fall back into putting others first as I'm sure most adults do and make decisions that aren't really aligned with my happiness for the sake of other people ( such as taking on too much work, going out way more than I really want to socialising etc ), then usually I remember to love myself again once I'm in a rut and things improve a lot. I don't mean love myself as in fawn over myself in the mirror, I mean look after myself like I would a child, sleep right, eat right, tackle problems compassionately, balance social and work lives so I'm not overwhelmed, talk kindly to myself with wisdom. I feel like this is the key to a really good life, it seems to propel me onto good things and no matter how much love anyone else shows me it's the only real way I start to feel invigorated. Does anyone else feel like this or have examples of when they've done their own thing and the world has just had to adjust and it's worked out? My new years resolution is to really love me but I would love some tips on how to sustain it please! Rather than a fleeting feeling every blue moon, how do you love yourself in every day life?

Not necessarily loving self but respecting self.
