www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11689489/Ive-saved-10-years-job-14-two-bedroom-139-000-home.html

She seems to have been living at home until she got a £139,000 house and a mortgage. She has done a lot of work on it and is renting out a room to her cousin.

It's great she has a house. But is it a news story?

Haha I thought the exact same thing!

Timesawastin · 29/01/2023 19:46

No, but then the DM hardly qualifies as a newspaper, so...

cakeorwine · 29/01/2023 19:46

Actually, it turns out she bought it in 2020, so 3 years ago...

I just read this too!

'I was fortunate enough to live with my mum and dad up until I bought my first house'

Aye, love, that'll be why you can afford to buy a home.

ChocChipOwl · 29/01/2023 19:52

My DD is 24 and mortgage free, owns a 3 bed house

Sounds quite good for her age but there are reasons why this has come to be the case

So no, I don't think this story is newsworthy

Scienceadvisory · 29/01/2023 20:25

She got to live with her parents and clearly lives somewhere with cheap-ish housing. Around my way a 2 bed flat costs over 200k, move 20 miles from her and its over 300k. What she's done really isn't special and I'm not sure why we are supposed to care.

2tired2bewitty · 29/01/2023 20:30

It’s like those stories in the Telegraph advising you on how Jocasta has bought as million pound house at just 25 by foregoing lattes/avocados/ski trips and then three paragraphs in it mentions the massive inheritance she received from great grandma 🙄

socialmedia23 · 29/01/2023 20:32

I bought a £392k flat in London with DH at 27, also lived at home for 3 years.

Not newsworthy in the slightest.

xogossipgirlxo · 29/01/2023 20:33

Kind of news parents tell to their friends

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/01/2023 20:34

It shouldn't be newsworthy to be adequately and affordable housed. But increasingly it is. Which is fucking depressing.

Spendonsend · 29/01/2023 20:34

I think the message is supposed to be young people should stop complaining about housing costs because this person bought a house by doing a paper round.

VyeBrator · 29/01/2023 20:35

I do have to laugh when Daily Mail readers start threads to criticize the Daily Mail.

No it's not newsworthy and it's certainly not threadworthy either.

ReneBumsWombats · 29/01/2023 20:41

Well yes, in the sense that it highlights hoelw unaffordable home ownership is for many young people. Obviously the DM is doing the "it's just lazy entitled yoof" bollocks, but look at it more critically and yes...27 year old reveals secret to buying modest first home does indeed betray how unobtainable it is for many.

lolstevelol · 29/01/2023 20:56

Daily mail and Guardian are the same. If I had to pick one to read I would pick Daily Mail as they have a much better website and do not censor the comment section unless legally required and do not have their version of Guardians pick in the comment section and people are aware that they have issues.

My thoughts exactly.

GirlOfTudor · 29/01/2023 21:59

Not newsworthy, but also not surprising as it's the daily mail.

I bought my 1st home at 25 with a 25% deposit. So a 27 year old buying an equally low-priced house, with the advantage of living with mummy and daddy until that age isn't really an achievement.

Is it comment worthy though?

The news is selected on purpose. This particular non story is to push the narrative that poverty and “generation rent” isn’t due to a horrible economy, and a housing crises, big is due to lazy young people making poor decisions, by showcasing a young woman has bought a house!

It’s a little snippet of Tory propaganda

I think her job is a journalist and she writes news about herself.
Which is one way to get news out there.
