Where did all the fun go? -This is a boring weekend, isn’t it

Weekend so far…went fo work for 3 hours yesterday morning, went shopping for dinner and breakfast for today. Came home, tidied up, put washing away and tried to control my hyper 4 year old, make cookies with her and pizzas, took her to bed, fell asleep myself at 8pm.

Today-made a special breakfast for everyone, tidied up, played shops with Dd, took dog for a walk in the woods, will make dinner, watch Happy valley and bed..is this normal? Seems so dull…it’s so cold and we’re all full of coughs and colds at the moment so it does make a difference somewhat, where did the fun in life go?
Just writing notes on my phone for the week, which involves school drop offs, work, more food shopping, paying bills etc..Eurgh, I miss being young when life was so exciting!

January a bit of a slump month, and if you're all full of coughs and colds that won't help.

Do you have some friends who would like to go for wings and drinks (or whatever) and set the world to rights talking shite for 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon? Sometimes we need a little break from our nearest and dearest.

That sounds like quite a nice chilled weekend actually! Is every weekend the same and you're feeling bored? In an ideal world, I'd alternate this kind of weekend with something busier.

We’ve had a fab weekend so it’s not everyone 😆

@LondonJax He’d been playing with her and made her lunch etc, but it was chaos with toys everywhere and dishes not washed. He then nipped out to get fire wood, but took a couple of hours, so I was with Dd, did biscuits and pizza with her and took her to bed.
This morning he did her breakfast (I did yesterday, I lay in until 9.30, then got up, tidied, washed the morning dishes from them and made the special brunch type thing. Playing with Dd this afternoon while he’s on the loo or nipping out, dog walk and now making dinner

@TheYearOfSmallThings i wish! When we all meet up, it’s for play dates with our dcs, it’s nice but not a break and then Dh gets a break at home 🙈
If I work Sat morn, he’d see it as he’s been with her and won’t then take her out when I’m home as I imagine he probably sees it as him needing a break after that

I think someone had it up thread - January is the most boring month of the year!

But yes, do try and get things more equal with your me-time at the w/e.

Winter weekends are boring. It's also ok to moan about it.

Definitely not, but maybe some of them could be tempted to a child free afternoon? I bet if you could get them out once they would regain their taste for occasional freedom...

Could you share doing some of the meals with your DH? How about arranging some time away from the house doing stuff on your own or with a friend to break things up?

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 29/01/2023 18:29

This is sounding more like you're dissatisfied with the division of labour between you and your DH rather than finding weekends dull.
