To phone 111 for a UTI?

Hello

I’ve not slept and really struggling with the discomfort and pain from a very obvious UTI. I can’t phone GP until tomorrow morning at 8.30am and I know from past experience that this is only going to get worse. Would I be prescribed antibiotics over the phone if I rang 111 (I’m in Scotland)? Boots do an online doctor but looks as if I wouldn’t be able to get antibiotics until tomorrow earliest anyway? I’ve a huge week work wise and I really can’t afford the time off. Arghhh please help. I’m downing water and have taken some of the cranberry sachets that I had in the cupboard but nothing is providing relief.

There will be an out of hours pharmacy operating somewhere or there might be one attached to the A+E at your hospital.

You did the right thing, never leave a UTI that wont go, can turn into a kidney infection

I had antibiotics from 111 this week because I got bitten by a rat. I had to go to a clinic though because I had to get a tetanus shot too. They were really fast, all done within a couple of hours.

The rat has been humanely trapped and released.

Oh bless you this is the worst feeling. Can your husband get some of the cystitis relief pouches from boots? I’ve found they provide good relief unyil
you get antibiotics.

Yes I would. I had a UTI turn into a kidney infection once...not to scare you

So have I, very unpleasant and dangerous.

Hope you're ok OP. I had a panic as was in agony with strep throat/tonsillitis and called 111 (Scotland). I waited a few hours for a call back and then was seen by Out of Hours GP who gave me a few doses of antibiotics to last me overnight and a prescription for the next day.

I don't know what I would have done if I was farther than a taxi ride to the out of hours. To pain was excruciating so I couldn't drive.

Thanks all. Out of hours doctor has rang and DH on his way back to next town to get prescription as he was home before they called. Anyway, hopefully will have had my first dose within half an hour. Praying it starts to work asap. This one feels a particularly bad one. Normally I can still go about my day to day jobs but it has really floored me.
