Strange sensation in body - hormones?

Sorry not an AIBU but posting for traffic.

I have been having weird sensations in my body for almost a year now.
It is extremely difficult to describe what it is as I have never felt it before.
I get it a few nights every month and am wondering if it is hormone related.

The sensation is like this - feeling like torso is being pumped up with air and then released, sometimes on a bad night, I have to move position or cough to trigger the release part. I get a general sensation in my body that I don't feel right, its sort of tingling but also not really tingling. In the beginning when it started I felt panicky about it as I didn't know what was happening to me. I don't feel panicky now as I know it will pass.

Sometime with it I feel like I want to crawl out of my body, I feel very restless and itchy.

Its definitely not anxiety or panic attacks. The pumping up part is helped by me propping myself up on pillows.

I struggle to fall sleep when I have it as it is such an unpleasant sensation. Not painful at all. Two nights ago I woke a few times during the night with it.

Dr thinks its peri menopause. I cant pin point it to a particular time of the month.
I am reluctant to start HRT just yet as I know it can take time to get the right dose and I have a lot on and cant be dealing with more hormone issues right now.

Does anyone else experience this?

Actually the sensation is similar to Braxton Hicks - that feeling of fullness and pressure in your torso.

I do get it during the day but not as noticeable as when I go to bed.
