To wonder why people are so cagey about naming companies on here?

What I mean is when posters say ‘I was in a well-known supermarket…’ or ‘I bought a well-known brand of chocolate’ Just why?? N

I’m not talking about when it’s outing - but saying you went to Tesco is very much not outing. I especially don’t get it when a poster has been royally screwed over by said company and is still being cagey about it. I’d be only too keen to name and shame - in fact I’d probably do it on the company’s own fb page.

It makes even less sense when the detail is totally inconsequential- eg I was enjoying a takeaway from a well-known high street chain. Just say you had a Nando’s!! It’s fewer words!

Don’t know why this bothers me, but it sure does.

On lots of social media homepages it isn't allowed to name companies. I think it is because the social media company doesn't want to get sued

Remember the SSE thread? That’s why.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 27/01/2023 14:58

Oooh what happened with the SSE thread?

ExasperatedbyJanuary · 27/01/2023 17:03

Yes, what happened on the SSE thread?!

The OP had no power after SSE messed up and cut her off because of the debt of the previous owner of her house. There were a few weeks of updates with no resolution and she had a newborn and another child too. Someone from another energy provider tried to step in and help but she didn’t have power for weeks. The thread went viral on Reddit and Twitter and then, suddenly, the OP stopped responding. Then someone commented to say that the OP had contacted them on Reddit to say that their account had been banned from mumsnet with no explanation. People posted on the thread asking why the OP was banned and mumsnet pulled the thread down.

WindscreenWipe · 27/01/2023 18:16

There was a TAAT at the time speculating that SSE had asked mumsnet to pull the thread and get rid of OP.

That’s appalling! That’s precisely the sort of shit that companies ought to be called out for. That little scenario basically underlines how powerless we are in the face of big companies and their utter contempt for their customers.

Yes, it's maddening. This isn't Blue Peter.
