In a group for a hobby and one or two just keep posting jokes and memes, and loads of stuff about Harry etc.
I look expecting it to be something about the hobby or meeting up and it's just monotonous crap.
I wish they would have a separate one for this. I did once mention it someone said its just humour.
I have got a sense of humour but I want to read about the hobby we do not their endless drivel.
It dosent matter if you mute notifications or not it's still there when you look.

Some people want to chat about other things though and build a friendship beyond communicating the absolute bare minimum required for the hobby.

It sounds like this isn't the group for you.

I share your pain.... My DS's football team have a group & there are a few dads who enjoy 'banter' (I hate that word!!!) about their rival Premier league clubs. It's just not funny & they need to get their own what's app group & spare us all. Painful.

Who setup the WhatsApp? Contact them. Discuss creating some guidelines, get them to post guidelines and suggest if a sub group want to share more general chat that they create it

im just setting up a whatapp for a hobby club. I’ve stated right at start it is just for issues relating to club and meetings and pictures of what we’ve been doing in club. No memes or other topics. I’ve said that as well use it for meeting notices people could miss important information amongst all the random noise. I will message anyone posting random stuff privately to get them to stop if they post something off topic.

Can you start "Gonk Collectors Winchester: Notices" and add everyone to it, so the general chat can stay on the main group, and ask that important info is put on the notices group?

Whatsshecalled · 24/01/2023 11:32

Our village Facebook group is like this, really useful announcements so i do need to look at it but also 1 person who posts jokes/memes all the time.....why? (They're not funny, really out dated and usually bordering on misogyny, but even if they were funny they're just making it harder to see the important stuff, put them on your own page)

GoodChat · 24/01/2023 11:38

Why don't you ask if there can be a separate social group for the hobby and one for formal notices?

You always get people who like the sound of their own voice on larger WhatsApp groups unfortunately. There is not much you can do about it, other than have the admin change the settings so that only admins can post (so more like a noticeboard than a discussion group).
