… to share my ‘victory’ because I can’t in real life?

Will try and keep this brief. I started working for a company early last year. HR on a whole new level of incompetency. In brief the whole set up was a massive tax dodge. I got sacked because I got pregnant, two weeks before my due date. Yep - you think this kind of thing wouldn’t happen in this day and age, or at least not so blatantly - you wouldn’t BELIEVE what these morons put in writing.

ACAS failed as they wouldn’t engage. So I worked for weeks and weeks perfecting a particulars of claim for the tribunal, literally researching every single aspect and all the ways they screwed me and broke the law. Filed it and within two weeks I had a five figure offer, negotiated it upwards, and the payment hit my bank account 3pm today.

After battling PND and just general feeling of absolute shite, AIBU to be so happy to get this “win”, to be able to focus on DS… and maybe book a mini break somewhere hot?

Only regret it that confidentiality agreements mean I can’t really tell anyone in real life so nobody will really find out just how awful this company are.

Congratulations!

That is an amazing achievement. Your baby has a cool mama 😎

BCBird · 23/01/2023 21:22

Congratulations. Glad u kicked their ass. Book a break. Enjoy. You deserve it 😎

Kellykukoo · 23/01/2023 21:23

Well done for fighting this. Hopefully your victory means that they won't do the same to another pregnant employee.

countvoncount · 23/01/2023 21:23

I salute you tonight!
Bravo to you, you sound utterly brilliant!

YearOfTheLepus · 23/01/2023 21:23

ARoughRide · 23/01/2023 21:25

🙌🏻 Huge congratulations 🎉

Plonkety · 23/01/2023 21:25

Well done for having the strength to go through all that with a newborn and PND. Really, well bloody done! 👏

Walkingtheplank · 23/01/2023 21:26

Bravo, good for you. 👍

2023bebetter · 23/01/2023 21:27

Well done op.

How atrocious though, fancy having that worry when pregnant.

Bethany7 · 23/01/2023 21:28

Well done O.P.
Can also imagine all the paperwork etc in making the claim was stressful and hard work whilst looking after a baby so you really should be super proud!
Go treat yourself and your family and then maybe one day you could retrain as a lawyer!

NCCuzConfidential · 23/01/2023 21:29

Thanks everyone ❤️ it was one of those moment that I was really sad… but then really angry. So I was very much powered by anger. It’s nice to not have that anymore though. I would have gone to the tribunal but this is better than having that hanging over me for a year plus.

Well done, you sound super cool (& so tough).
you deserve to enjoy your victory!

Gamesetmatchau · 23/01/2023 21:29

Isn't victory so sweet? Onwards and upwards, OP.

I went through similar for a different reason and walked away with 6 times the original offer which gave me enough to change my life.

NCCuzConfidential · 23/01/2023 21:29

@Bethany7 Did start to fancy myself as Erin Brokovitch at one point!

Please try to resist blowing it . If they’ve sacked you I assume they’re not paying maternity or into your pension, and then you also be trying to find a new job with a 12 month old baby . You are loosing so much fincnail secuity from what they’ve done. Put the money to work for you in a high interest account to draw down form as you need it. And put some into your pension pot too - you’ll get tax relief and you’ll need it later.
yep, celebrate your win.bloody well done. But be cautious about blowing a large chunk

dovelove · 23/01/2023 21:30

Ah I love this!!! Well done xxxx

Spellcheck · 23/01/2023 21:31

Amazing!! So, so glad that justice has prevailed, and such a weight off your mind! Congratulations. Now go and enjoy that baby xx

PS: PND is horrible. Please be kind to yourself xx

Well done for fighting this. Hopefully your victory means that they won't do the same to another pregnant employee.

Yes Op, I was thinking that too. You were screwed over but hopefully you’ve done the leg work that’ll make them think twice before doing it to the next pregnant employee. Take credit for that too

Hotelfoxtrot · 23/01/2023 21:31

Congrats OP! Definitely book the mini break, celebrate and enjoy your time with LO!

SnackyOnassis · 23/01/2023 21:32

Congratulations OP, a fantastic achievement! I so admire you, I could barely remember my own name in those first couple of months, let alone prepare for a tribunal so it's an even greater feat in my eyes!
Has the legal prep given you a taste for a career change if/when you return to work, potentially?!

etsiketsi · 23/01/2023 21:33

Good work. Not just for you but for those following behind you. Proper well done

NCCuzConfidential · 23/01/2023 21:33

@Newlifestartingatlast Ahh you are very right, it is (almost all) going to very sensible causes. I do actually have maternity allowance as didn’t qualify for mat pay due to service length anyway so I’m not financially worse off - but v good point about pensions
