How to save money via food shopping

Isabellye · 22/01/2023 16:00

Seem to be spending alot more on food shopping.
I have 3 kids..one is a teen who just seems to want to snack more instead of eat whole dinners
My middle one has a huge appetite and now my youngest is at the age of 2.5 I think she's eating more than she ever has done 😂😂 so I'm spending around 150 a week on average..actually maybe a bit more
Also have a dog and cat

Any advice?
What is the average amount to spend on a family of 5 with 2 pets? Thank you

£150 doesn’t sound that bad for a family of 5 and pets but you could always find ways it’s spend less.

We spend £100 for 2 adults, toddler and 2 cats but that includes top up shops.

Where do you shop?

Could you buy the pet food in bulk online?

Don’t buy snacks then they will eat their meals. Take them out for a walk or something every time they claim to be hungry, they’re probably just bored.

Family of 4 with 1 dog we spend about £120 a week but to be honest there's stuff we really don't need to buy. I spend less on weeks where we plan what we are having for dinner and some cheaper evenings like jacket potatoes or bolognese in a wrap ect. Cheaper snacks rather than branded as well. Our bulk of our spend goes on fruit and fresh meat as we portion it then freeze it so we don't waste as much. Any leftovers goes in a tub in the freezer for quick meals.

Reading with interest as I contemplate a lock box for snacks of any sort to stop my teen from eating EVERYTHING unless it's hidden.
He might have to go to bread and butter then or similar as he's constantly starving

I second not having snacks in and bulking out the meals for the hungry teen with healthy wholemeal pastas/wraps/rice. Good fibre but will stay longer in the tummy and the bloodstream. Xx
