When I was little the Spot books were great! Large format with bigger flaps for little fingers, and interesting things behind them. The characters actually acted like dogs (well, more or less!) usually walking on all fours, enjoying bones, shaking themselves dry and eating out of dog bowls. Now the books are much smaller, the flaps, when there even are any, are too fiddly for little toddlers and half the time there's just a speech bubble behind them which has no interest for preschoolers, the characters are far too 'human-like' walking on their hind legs, and I think the original animals were better than the whole Tom/Helen/Steve crew. I don't understand why they did away with the original style and have gone on to just churn out all these sub-standard ones. It's making me cross! AIBU?
