Hard to tell but face shape looks like it might be George VI. Is there anything on the other side that might help?

Rinoachicken · 16/01/2023 17:35

I think George 3rd as well

AndrewPreview · 16/01/2023 17:36

Looks like William IV to me:

Lockheart · 16/01/2023 17:36

It's a very worn William IV coin I think (with IV written IIII).

The Georges don't have names ending in -mus.

WashAsDelicates · 16/01/2023 17:37

William IV ?

I think it might be George III to be honest. It would say Georgius III - which is what the writing on the left looks like, and he was sort of fat with laurel leaves - which is vaguely what looks to be left of the picture.

George VI faced left not right.

The name on the coin ends in -mus and the Roman numerals are IIII (a different way of writing IV). It's not George III.

My husband is a numismatist and he says it’s 100% William iv 😊

latetothefisting · 16/01/2023 17:44

"I know is hours know but I don't" ????? no idea what you're asking but I think @AndrewPreview is right - none of the other right facing monarchs have names that would match the 'lmus IIII' bit on the left side.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 16/01/2023 17:45

William IV. The letters are MUS IIII which is WILLIELMUS IIII )and he's facing the opposite way to Victoria, who came after him).

Sorry, it's Gulglielmus, but that means the visible letters are still correct for William IV.

Or even Guliemus, although I'd love a king called Gulglielmus!

ChocChipOwl · 16/01/2023 17:53

Sorry, my typos are terrible in the op!

I meant I know I should know - but I don't!

Here's the reverse... can see a '35' but not a 19 or 18!

No idea where that came from! sounds like a Terry Pratchett ogre. I think my Latin and Italian had a bit of a moment there.

That's 1835 if William IV. He came to the throne in 1830 and died in 1837.

Thank you all!

It’s definitely a King as is has ‘Rex’ but that’s as far as my knowledge goes.

Spanielears · 16/01/2023 20:01

Hi, it’s William IV. My husband collects coins and can recognise it - here’s what it should look like

@Spanielears lovely thank you! If only it was valuable 😀

You’re more than welcome! 😀

Spanielears · 16/01/2023 22:33

My husband said that it will be made of pure silver, so will be worth its weight in silver. At least it’s a nice little part of history to own 😀👍
