Post Office Stamps Expiring!!! Read if you have any

I just found out today that the Post Office are expiring stamps that do not have barcodes. Was supposed to be end of this month but has been extended to July. If you have any you intend to use after this time make sure you exchange them. I think it’s an absolute scam, especially since I don’t feel they’ve made it well know to people, hence this post

A flier was sent to every address late last year.

Nope, didn't get one and I'm thorough with my mail.

Neither myself of my brother who lives in a different property received one so the must have missed some homes out

They have radio and podcast adverts (I assume the same on TV), signs in post offices, if you buy stamps now they’re the new ones. It’s been well publicised for quite a while, it’s not been sprung on anyone.

PinkBuffalo · 16/01/2023 13:53

I did not know this thank you OP I have just been on Royal Mail website to request a form where they will swap them for free for me

DismantledKing · 16/01/2023 13:54

I thought everyone knew this? It’s been on the news, in the papers…

1987qwerty · 16/01/2023 13:56

Extended to end of July now

I Only listen to a couple of podcasts, which it wasn’t on and I don’t listen to the radio. I do however have the tv on daily and have not seen one advert, which I think would catch more people than the radio or specific podcasts

I knew they were expiring but didn’t know the expiry date for old stamps had been extended Can’t find anything in news about this

TheChosenTwo · 16/01/2023 13:59

I think it’s been quite well advertised to be honest but no harm in drawing attention to it here!
I can’t tell you the last time I bought a stamp though; or posted a physical letter. I definitely don’t have any stamps in my purse or wherever.

ButtOutBobsMum · 16/01/2023 14:08

First I've heard of it!

LG93 · 16/01/2023 14:15

I hadn't realised they'd extended the deadline or you could exchange them, I have dd loads to use as stickers 🤦

babsanderson · 16/01/2023 14:17

I am glad it has been extended. You can get them swapped over to new style stamps but only if they are in a book or sheet. This gives me time to use up the couple of single ones I have.

londonrach · 16/01/2023 14:20

I'm surprised you didn't know. I have one stamp left now. Once it's used I won't be buying books of stamps again just if I vvvv occasionally need to send something go to post office and buy postage for that one item. I'm using parcel to go for most other things now. The new stamps sound too complicated

MasterBeth · 16/01/2023 14:24

It has nothing to do with the Post Office, which is a separate organisation to Royal Mail.

How can a stamp be complicated? You take it off its backing and stick it to an envelope, just like you do now.

babsanderson · 16/01/2023 14:25

I think some elderly people will struggle to swamp unused stamps. I know they are separate organisations, but if there could have been a plan so they could be swapped at the Post Office it would have made much more sense.

babsanderson · 16/01/2023 14:27

And I still use stamps to send cards. Most people still prefer paper cards and young children certainly prefer paper birthday cards.

Well, I’ve just asked two friends if they knew and they have both responded to say they didn’t do I personally don’t think it’s been well advertised. We’re all in our mid/late 30s and all have some old stamps since it made sense to buy a book and use maybe 1 or 2 a year to send birthday cards, which you definitely wouldn’t want to queue up for about 20 mins in the post office to send

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/01/2023 14:29

You can collect the form from the Post Office but they cannot actually swap your stamps for you, you need to send the form off.

babsanderson · 16/01/2023 14:30

I did not know you could get the form from the Post Office.

Bookworm20 · 16/01/2023 14:30

I heard something about it a while ago, and then nothing. Defibnitely no flyer through my door. Rarely watch tele.
So thanks for the heads up. I have a few I'll try and use up then in that case!

1stWorldProblems · 16/01/2023 14:32

It only applies to stamps with the Queen's head or the same shape ones. The special picture stamps (which are landscape rather than portrait) don't expire according my local post master.

I'd missed it too. No leaflet here. And I haven't seen or heard anything about it on the news.

I shall take a look at my stamp collection...
