My colleague who I would consider a friend too does things like - if I showed her an email my manager sent she’d say “wow X would never speak to me like that, sounds like they hate you”

Its almost like it’s a way to get me to think the absolute worst.

Some people are arseholes and get off on knowing they have upset someone else.

Some people are just like that... they add to any problems, never positive, or even neutral.

My now ex husband used to dig at me constantly. In a rare moment of candour he said he liked the feeling it gave him, knowing he had upset me. He totally got off on it.

If that's how your friends speak to you then they are more likely to be frenemies. Downgrade her in your head from friend to colleague.
