To think that the monarchy cannot survive if it changes its relationship to the media

All judgements about Prince Harry's modus operandi and the rights and wrongs of what he has done aside, aibu to think that his wish for the royal family to change the way they deal with the press is falling on deaf ears because essentially they are trapped and the monarchy would not survive in its current form, if they took a different approach. Quite simply, swathes of the press would turn on them if they started challenging stories and stopped briefing and leaking. Especially in light of potentially very unfavourable information becoming public knowledge. It seems to me that the dysfunctional relationship that exists creates a 'survival of the fittest' situation where you play the game to survive and if that means turning on and cutting out a family member who doesn't want to play ball anymore or who threatens your own position then so be it. The alternative is the end of the monarchy as we know it.
