Does anyone have a Kia sportage - service question please

So my car is booked in for its 6th service. 2 years ago I paid around £460 for a service which included goodness knows what (I was married than and husband sorted it)

Last year was a cheapish one, around £80.

I've just booked it in for its yearly service to be told it's going to cost £329. I asked what for and she said something to do with the oil and break fluid. It's a longer service and will cost more.

I am almost certain that after the £460 service 2 years ago, we were told we wouldn't need another expensive one for at least 4 years.

Just want to know if anyone else can tell me how much they paid for there services around the 6 year mark for a Kia sportage?

This is being done through the Kia garage as the car is still under warranty and I'm aware if it is serviced else where then that can affect the warranty.

I was told next year jt will be a cheaper service and then the following year I'll be looking at over £500

Your service manual will tell you what each service is

Assuming this is via a kia dealer it'll be standard and it's common to alternate short/cheap with long/expensive services. they'll be fully looking at everything. You want to pick up any issues now before the 7y warranty runs out. If you think you're being ripped off, ring up another kia dealer and ask the cost for a y6 sportage service

Sounds pretty standard to me — my car wants a service once a year, and alternates between minor and major services. So I'd expect an expensive one every two years.

On certain intervals there's a third, even more pricey, service which includes things like timing belts (if the car has one; some of them have chains) and other stuff. These are usually every 40,000 miles although intervals can vary by manufacturer.

When I booked it in last year, the same woman I've just spoken too tried to charge me £400 again. I had to be quite abrupt with her that I paid that the year before and was 100% I should not be paying for that. She changed it but was really quite rude.

That's sort of why alarm bells started ringing in my head. I have checked the service book and couldn't see anything but I'll have another look.

I have a Kia (not a Sportage though). You don't have to use a dealership to keep the warranty. See last question on this page: www.kia.com/uk/owners/faqs/warranty/

Dig out the service booklet. The one the garage stamps after every service. It will detail how often it should be serviced (in mileage and months/years). It will also specify the schedule of full and interim services.

I don't have a Kia but I do work for a (not Kia) dealership
It usually alternates between major and minor service and at certain intervals specific things are recommended like brake fluid etc

For example one that I can think of (again not Kia) is a 6 year service on the cars I work for, some are scheduled to have brake hoses and brake fluid replaced which is more time, more parts and more expensive

You can ask them for a breakdown of what is being done, have it done at a local garage (use Kia parts and won't affect warranty), take out a service plan if they offer it (check if it's cheaper) or google should supply the info of what service

Thank you all - I'll take it as it's right. I'm just trying to get used to doing these things on my own as a single woman and anything to do with cars I find quite daunting after well and truly being ripped off last year quite clearly for being a woman! Just being extra vigilant.

But then sometimes the manufacturer says at the third year the brake fluid has to be changed as well (we recommend 3 years so that would make sense at 6 year service actually)

Just use a reliable local VAT registered garage, ask people you know for recommendations. You don't have to service at a main dealer for the warranty. Ask the garage to use genuine manufacturers parts.

I have a 6 year old Kia Sportage but don't have it serviced at the dealership.

My service in October was £327 but that included my MOT.
I had replaced;
Oil filter
air filter
fuel filter
pollen filter
8.5L of Shell Helix 5w30 oil
sump plug seal
advanced motor flush
screen wash shot
front brake pads
a replacement wheel nut.

I think the year before was £180 or so - I'd have to look for the invoice.

I refuse to use the dealership as they claimed to have serviced the car before I bought it and the next year I took it to our trusted garage and they could tell that there hadn't been an oil change done.

So long as you have detailed invoices stating what has been done at each service then Kia will honour the warranty. We had to claim in 2020 when the oil uptake pipe failed and the engine seized. We provided the invoices for the two services we'd had done elsewhere and they completely replaced the bottom end of the engine.

I've always been told that you have to stick with Kia itself - I suppose of course that's what they would say. I'll definitely try some other garages, thank you!

I work at a Kia garage. 4th is major inc fuel filter. 2nd and 4th are big but not major, should be oil, filter, brake and potentially pollen if they’ve up-sold it.
