To say it’s not an artificial pancreas

Huge news for type 1 diabetics today with the news that an “artificial pancreas” may soon be available. However I really think the terminology is incredibly misleading. Saying it’s an artificial pancreas kind of insinuates that you can just forget you have type 1 and get on with life. It’s not true. You will still have to calculate every gram of carbohydrate that passes your lips. It’s a massive step in the right direction and I will be massively grateful if my DS is granted access as it means I will be able to sleep through a full night again (hoorah!) but it will still be a huge burden for him to bear growing up. It still needs a cure.

That said, hugely grateful to the amazing Partha Karr for pushing things forward and to the NHS in their efforts to reach an agreement with the tech companies.
