Been thinking recently about how much we've lost due to the internet, although of course there are lots of amazing things too. For me, I think I miss things like record stores, long conversations on the phone with friends, so many high street shops that are now gone forever, online shopping just isn't the same, especially as you can't try something on, mix tapes, seeing a film in a big cinema, bookshops, lots of independent shops, so much is commercialised now, department stores, in my city, there was only Debenhams and now that's gone, I miss going into town and browsing, there's nothing left other than pound stores, it's so sad.

What do you miss that modern life has robbed you of?

kids knocking on, nobody had phones, you had to knock in your friends door and if they were out they were out.

There is a meme showing a pile if children's bikes on the front lawn, I really miss running around looking for my mates. It was half of the fun! Spotting 5 bikes in the park and knowing once I got there and shouted I'd be in on the fun.

I also really miss telly. nothing good on? Great that means I'm doing something not screen related.

I also really miss not having a phone. when my old one broke I held off buying a new one for about a year. I don't want friends and family calling me or texting me and expecting my attention when it suits them. if you can't talk or you don't answer you look like a twit, but I can't fucking spend 20 mins on the phone with you, I'm busy, it's interrupting time with my kids. I need space and I need quiet.
I hate being available all the time.
my phone is now routinely on silent and kept in my bedroom drawer. I check it when I want to check it.

filling out forms! everything is online.
I've had to down load 6 different apps for my children's school. just give us a letter.
the password for the new apps are emojis. fucking emojis, you can't even remember a word.

If I miss something it's because I haven't checked my email, the app, the other app for the other class, the website or my texts. just pick one form of communication (preferably a piece of paper) and fucking stick to it.

I have to do 4 online forms for the dentist for each child every visits it takes ages. my mum used to just initial a form in person on the day, the kids medical history is the same as it was 6 months ago. just put in a separate option, no change.

Having a wider social circle
Shopping on the high street more

I don't miss worrying about whether I would have a family of my own, or my parents rowing though.

Literacy, and people talking over dinner. The number of people you are using their phone at dinner. It looks sad.

Childhood cinema trips which felt like a very big deal.
