I’m in the market for a new one. When is the best time to buy - now or in summer? I have my old jacket, just bored of it.

im thinking of buying a Rab jacket. How is Montane? Any other brands I should consider?
Budget is around £130.

Are you bothered about the label on it?

Jazz12 · 08/01/2023 21:43

No. I just want something warm and in nice bright colours.

DH has a Rab. He says it’s really well made and warm.

I have a Peter storm (£20) and a “designer” jacket from Tkmax (£50)
Peter storm jacket really thinned out after washing once.

Mountain warehouse do some decent clothing

How wintry do you want to go? I live in a very cold country and have invested in a very expensive local brand down jacket. Real down is probably going to be out of your price range, but the next best thing is this stuff called Prima-loft, it’s much lighter and thinner than down but has excellent insulating properties so I suggest looking out for that if you are prioritising warmth.

For that budget I'd look at Lands End

I bought a lovely mountain warehouse down parka in the sale after Christmas. It was supposedly £200, reduced to £120 and with another code I found it came down to £95.
I have a few down coats, an Ayacucho, Rab and Northface but the Mountain Warehouse one is cosier than all of them.

Rab is great.
I saw some stylish coats on sale in White Stuff today.

Outdoor GB have really good offers on a wide range of jackets, have bought Didriksons, Rab, Jack Wolfskin jackets from there before and a range of other products by different manufacturers. Would imagine now is a good time to buy in shops with sales being on.

I have a mountain warehouse but uts way too warm for out winters. South East England.
I also have a regatta and it's perfect for winter.

I've got two Montane jackets if different weights - I love them, they're great quality.

I've got a Rab, best jacket I've ever owned, it was supposed to be for when we're camping/walking but I wear it all the time, I even throw it on when I go into the office, it's got a detachable hood which I love so I can remove it if it's not going to rain.
Nothing gets through it, cold, rain, snow, it's the best money I've ever spent.
Definitely look for one as we go into spring as they reduce the winter stock in the sales
