... to ask about the ski/snow situation?

DD is going on school ski trip to Austria in a few weeks- mid Feb for half term. It's her first time skiing and trip has cost a fortune.

Now seeing reports that a lot of resorts have no snow!?

What happens if there's no snow, presumably this isn't covered by insurance? I will contact the school too but don't what to be THAT parent!

You need to wait a bit I’d say. A lot can happen in a couple of weeks snow-wise.

Snow is due this coming week (it’s snowing in France now, I was in the mountains this morning) but not possible to tell if it’s enough, whether there’ll be more, whether it will remain cold enough for the snow to stay, whether it’ll be rainy and wash it all away.

It depends very much where she is going and what altitude it is.
I've cancelled a ski trip this week but it was a low altitude destination and there were other factors, however it does look as if there is some snow expected over the next couple of weeks.

February is most popular for skiing as it's the most snow sure month.

Oh and to answer your question, there's usually some sort of guarantee that they would be shipped to another resort if theirs is closed, but sneakily most French resorts have managed to keep a few runs open, even though I'm sure the conditions don't really support it.

I wouldn't panic about February, it's many weeks away and it won't take many days of snow to fix it. Also they don't need it to snow, they just need the temps closer to 0 and they can do snowmaking

What resort/altitude is it?

It's a long time til Feb, only need 1 decent dump of snow really before then.

Snowsureness is a lot down to luck really....I was in La Plagne over Xmas and snow was amazing there but I heard some if the Alps were grass!

Some of Austria is doing better than France so it really depends where she is going. We are going to the snow space Salzburg area at feb half term and I’m not concerned.

No need to contact the school. It just makes more work for the teachers and is not at all necessary.

The tour company will have all sorts of plan Bs they can execute should it be essential to eg: driving to different slopes if needed each day. However chance of no snow at all for skiing on in February is almost zero. School and tour company will have chosen the resort well and the tour company should have plenty of experience.

What resort?
