To be too scared to listen to music at the dentist...

Lighthearted question - is there a consensus on listening to music / podcasts at the dentist?

If I'm there for a while (having something done or at the hygienist etc) it's pretty boring. My friend said earlier that she puts (wireless so not in the way) headphones on. She has them quiet enough that she can hear when they ask questions but gives her something else to focus on.

Is this a normal thing? Also, same for other appointments like hairdressers or nails? I basically sit in silence bored and awkward because I didn't know this was a thing when you've got a new appointment! Is it rude?!

It is normal.

I used to see a private dentist, and he would ask what I wanted to listen to and blast it out on the speakers for everyone to enjoy. I asked for Rammstein Grin

I do it at the dentist if having fillings etc as a distraction technique. Wouldn’t do it for hair and nails though as that feels a bit rude.

My dentist has a telly in the room, and asks for preferences. I ask for Radio 6 which baffled them the first time, they thought I was making it up.
