YANBU… works for me. Positive energy attracts positive energy in my opinion.

Discovereads · 07/01/2023 18:55

I think you mean “fake it until you make it”
and no, I don’t believe in it because if you make it, you get imposter syndrome and if you don’t make it you blame your acting ability instead of looking at what the actual gaps in knowledge, expertise or experience might be behind failing.

CostaDelPatio · 07/01/2023 18:57

It depends, I use it with the DC - normally through gritted teeth “we will have a great day” it’s just the same as a self fulfilling prophecy

ProceedWithOptimism · 07/01/2023 19:00

Mmmm sort of I guess. I recently got a promotion to a job that I don't really feel experienced enough for, but I grit my teeth and make decisions and keep forging ahead without showing anyone that I'm paddling madly underneath.

Rudolphscarrot · 07/01/2023 19:01

I'm about to start a new job and I have a lot of knowledge gaps. This will absolutely be my strategy, but I intend to put in the work in the background so I can "make it" sooner rather than later

Vitriolinsanity · 07/01/2023 23:44

I live by it dailyGrin

XenoBitch · 07/01/2023 23:46

No. It basically amounted to 'masking' for me, and led to breakdowns.

PenanceAdair · 08/01/2023 00:01

Hmm well there's 2 kinds that I've seen. One is put on a brave face and carry on or masking or try to be positive (All separate things but in the same category).

The other kind is pretend you're who you're not; show off 'your' house/car/office, etc, but they aren't really yours; you're hoping to have something like that someday, so you're faking a 'successful' life in the mean time.

Not with everything, but definitely for some things.
