Breast cancer fund raising door to door?

AIBU in thinking this odd or even a scam?

got a knock at door …a very young man saying he was from breast cancer charity. He had fob and badge he waved around but as standing back from door I couldn’t read it properly and doesn’t mean much

he didn’t explain what he really wanted other that to “ talk to me about breast cancer awareness”… he had a clip board but wasn’t making it clear if he was collecting

I’ve had breast cancer- no way am I going to discuss my medical info on door step…but he was giving out this speel on raising awareness and I was a bit surprised that it appears it didn’t occur to him he quite literally might be teaching his grandmother to suck eggs.

anyone else had this? Is this legit? AIBU that it could be a bit triggering for people who’ve had breast cancer to have a random stranger trying to raise their awareness with no prior warning or invitation. Mine was a long time ago and caught very early, but some women ( and men) aren’t so fortunate

Doesn't matter if it was legit or scam. The end result will be them asking for money, either cash or taking your card details. I'm comfortable with neither and so would politely say no thanks as I shut the door.

That was clunky...I'm not comfortable with either*

Did he try to get you to sign up to pay monthly to the cancer charity? We get various people round the doors trying to get us to sign up for charity donations.

The one good thing about covid was that they stopped coming round but unfortunately they have started coming back now.

He didn’t get far enough to ask me for anything. I let him spiel on for a couple of minutes and then said I did not respond to cold calling.he left amicably enough

Door to door charity collection is a thing, usually looking for you to pledge by Direct Debit similar to high street chugger. I'm usually quite assertive during these type of interactions and don't wait for them to finish their spiel or answer their questions, I interrupt and ask what they want.
If you didnt interrupt what was the conclusion of his 'patter'? Could you have just asked him?

XenoBitch · 08/01/2023 00:08

Charity collectors have been knocking on doors for ages now.

Probably a door to door chugger. We get then from Shelter and Battersea dogs home quite often.
