About 4 weeks ago I lost my switch card, so I rang and cancelled it and was told I would be sent a new card out. About a week later I got a letter from Abel & Cole saying my payment had been refused, I had forgotten this came off my card, rather than by direct debit. I didn;t do anything with it for about a week, I wasn?t due a delivery and I was expecting my new card any day. When it didn?t arrive after another week I enquired with my branch and the cashiers were very confused, on the screen it said my card was awaiting despatch, they couldn?t understand why.

I immediately emailed A & C to let them know what had happened. I got a reply back saying thanks for letting them know, please update my card as soon as I got it, deliveries would continue. I then phoned the bank to be told the reason my new card hadn;t been sent was that my old one was due to expire soonand as a computer request had already been generated I would just automatically get this card around 14th Feb which would be valid from 1st March.

I told them that was unacceptable and after going off to speak to her supervisor, I was told they would over-ride the system and I would get a new card within 3-5 days. This was last Thursday and immediately I got off the phone to the bank I phoned A & C, explained the whole thing and offered to pay the amount owing by cheque. I was told that wouldn?t be necessary, they would make a note that I was still waiting for my card and my deliveries would continue.

Today my mil took a phone call for me from A & C saying my account is suspended until I update my card details. She told them that I was still awaiting my card and there was nothing I could do (she didn?t know I had offered to pay by cheque.

I am feeling a bit annoyed considering I was told one thing on Thursday and another today, plus I offered to pay what I owe. I?m seriously considering changing company.

And as for Nat West causing all this, grrr!

Not at all but perhaps best to pay by cheque this time to get the account reactivated - I'd be even more angry at Natwest. Having similar problems with Capital One - being told one thing and then something else happening!!

I would be writing a snotty email, the fact that you have kept them updated and offered to pay immediately by cheque makes their actions unreasonable and I would tell them this and remind them that they were the ones who told you not to pay and they would continue with the deliveries.

Last week A &C stopped my account saying my debit had been refused so supply new card details. Yet there was money in my account and bank have not informed me of any declined transactions (normally they can't wait to slap on the bank charges!). Also I resubmitted details for same card and account restored that day. Are A&C expanding a little rapidly? I know they have investment from VC's to expand. Hope they are not turning into an organic corporate giant and losing their original principles.

YANBU. I would defonately send an email complaining. I would also be really angry wirh the bank.
