To be terrified about my child's safety?

My DC has recently passed out and is serving in the army. I won't say which unit.

I was proud as punch.

Now I'm fucking terrified because of that half-wit Harry!

There are going to be repercussions and they won't be able to get to Harry. So some poor squaddie will be targeted.

He's a disgrace to the military community.

toomuchfaster · 06/01/2023 14:05

WTAF???

BFR · 06/01/2023 14:07

Sorry didn't explain myself properly. He mentioned killing 25 Taliban and likening them to chest pieces.

Honestly I'm so so so fucking angry! He's a complete fucking dick.

Sorry OP, you must be really bored if that's what you're worried about 😂

Get a pissing life 😂

Krakenwakes · 06/01/2023 14:10

What are you talking about?

PoinsettiaPosturing · 06/01/2023 14:10

I understand your concerns OP, Harry has risked retaliation against armed services personnel by antagonising terrorists. I think the chances are miniscule but I get why you're worried Flowers

You have absolutely no idea do you?

Wish I could live in blissful ignorance like you.

I think there's two sides, firstly, other than stating a specific number - he was first quoted saying similar things years ago and they were in our papers etc with little uproar or repercussions specifically linked to his comments.

However, he's an idiot and has put himself in danger here with these words while he's in the spotlight and we're no longer at war.

It's natural to worry about a child in the forces so your not being unreasonable but I wouldn't worry more because of this particular thing.

Cherryblossoms85 · 06/01/2023 14:14

To be fair the military in general has always been a target. The Woolwich barracks attack isba reminder of how much danger our brave military bears on our behalf. I'm grateful for your son's service, but I don't think his risk is increased by Harry's actions. Harry on the other hand has a big problem.

ImprobablePuffin · 06/01/2023 14:25

So you weren't remotely worried about your child being in the armed forces...but now Harry has opened his mouth, you're terrified for your son's life?

No, I'm actually rational and I have a working brain. Therefore I would have assessed this crazy scenario and quickly realized that it's absolutely nothing for me to worry about!

Chickenly · 06/01/2023 14:30

What a nasty bunch of vipers you’ve hit upon so quickly, OP. I’m so sorry. I do understand your concern - the comments he made were inflammatory even if he didn’t intend them to be and I wouldn’t be surprised if the did inspire the kind of response you’re concerned about. That said, the intelligence on this kind of thing is extraordinary and successful attacks on our service personnel are vanishingly small. I don’t think that it’s any risk that this will impact your son - although I do agree that the risk wasn’t one he should’ve taken.

If PP don’t know which comments you’re referring to then I don’t know why they commented - it’s on the BBC overview of the book, which was the biggest news story on the website yesterday evening so not as if you’re referring to an insignificant paragraph that people wouldn’t know about.

@BFR I get it. That is not how the British army operates. My ds2 application has been in process for 2 years now and if I thought for one minute that this is how they are training soldiers I would not be supporting him.

My ddad was British Army until he retired from the force, I grew up around the military and I don't recognise that viewpoint at all. Dehumanising the enemy is not a helpful approach in a professional military.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/01/2023 14:56

Surely if they wanted to retaliate, they would be going after Harry, not your unknown son? Try and get a grip.

He will be deployed overseas and he will probably face combat at some point. That is part of being in the army. He doesn't need to have to placate a panicking Mummy as well.
