Sorry to abuse AIBU like this but are there any piercers around or those that know about piercings?

I have a couple of questions:

  1. How long realistically can you change your septum piercing from day dot (have a horse shoe currently but want to put a small ring in)?
  2. Can you re-pierce an ear piercing on your own if the piercing mark is still there given you have a bottle of wine and a needle at hand?
  3. How often do you change and clean your long standing piercings?

  1. What did the after care advice say? I would try and leave it for about 6-8 weeks if at all possible, but changed my nose piercing (not septum) after a week so I get the urge (and it worked out fine for me)
  1. Probably not a good idea if you are pissed. Have you tried poking an earring though, hard? You might not end up re piercing it but actually pierce it in a slightly different place. If you do, make sure to only put something sterile in there. Probably best not overall sorry!
  1. Only when they get sore or whiffy tbh. I don't always wear piercings in my holes, though, so when I do put something new in after a while not wearing anything I make sure to give the piercing itself and the jewellery a good clean in saline.

  1. Don't change it from the day you get it. You'll get it infected. Plus you should be wearing a longer bar for swelling. Once it's an established piercing, you can change it.
  2. You sure can, but be careful of infection. It might be better to try to shove an earring through if possible rather than use a needle as it's likely just closed up.
  3. I would clean them in the shower. I'd only change them if I wanted different jewellery or if the bar was picking up dead skin cells and had got a bit cheesy.

1 - I wouldn't change a cartilage piercing for a good 12/16 weeks, ideally longer. They get easily infected and can be a real PITA to heal.

2 - you can re-pierce them but I wouldn't recommend doing it with alcohol to hand Grin

3 - never unless I'm changing the jewellery. They get washed in the shower when I do my hair but nothing fancy.
