'This is why I don't talk to you about anything'

DH just said this to me. He had come to me with a bit of gossip and when he thought I didn't agree with him on the topic this is what he said. In fact I didn't agree nor disagree with him, I just stated a legal fact.

He said that this is why he doesn't talk to me about anything, he never discusses politics with me, etc, etc. because i dont agree with everything he says. He saves all that for online forums with strangers.

I feel a bit rubbish actually. I am an educated person with lots to discuss but no one to talk to.

Oh, but he'll make time for sex with me tomorrow. Those were his parting words.

Tell him to forget the sex it’s not happening, with that attitude.

Maray1967 · 05/01/2023 20:50

His parting shot was what? !!!
I sincerely hope you tell him to think again.

AllOfThemWitches · 05/01/2023 20:56

My partner hates it when I disagree with him, it's draining as fuck.

Alaldlccmemsjzja · 05/01/2023 20:57

His parting words? I get it’s a silly joke and that but sounds fucking threatening. Bloody hell.

and clearly he does tell you things because he just did??

pictoosh · 05/01/2023 21:03

The sex comment asides (which is bloody awful in any circs), I've got to ask...are you a 'corrector'? My dh is and I'm pretty sure I've said the same thing to him...while he regards it as you do.
He can't just let me tell a story or make an observation without seizing the opportunity to correct me and know better. It makes chatting a toil.

I appreciate that I am projecting but it's another point of view?

Abelandprior · 05/01/2023 21:03

He does tell me things but probably now won't because my opinions just aren't right. I am glad I'm good enough for him to have sex with but not good enough to have a conversation with 🙄

So does mine. But he also feels the need to educate me, which is really aggravating.

LongerThanADryJanuary23 · 05/01/2023 21:12

Yip, mine says 'you never have my back' when I don't agree with him (and I don't just mean if I disagree in front of other people, he'll say it when it's just the two of us which really makes no sense to me)

He seems to take it as a personal insult that I might have an opinion that's different from his.

Toomanysleepycats · 05/01/2023 21:18

Do you feel that he treats you as his equal?

iamjustwinginglife · 05/01/2023 23:43

Hang on...he said "this is why I don't talk to you about anything....but I'll make time to have sex with you tomorrow." Am I reading this correctly?

If so then you know where you stand-he doesn't see you as an intellectual equal, he doesn't want to talk to you or hear your thoughts and opinions, he just thinks you're there for sex! Not only that but he's happy to tell you that!

Testina · 05/01/2023 23:47

My husband would probably say I correct him / argue against him too much, if I’m honest. I think that’s a conversational style that you can work on.

But if either of us pulled a shitty comment like that about sex? Couldn’t see us coming back from that lack of respect.

For this to be a thing, you must be incorrect a lot. Is he meant to just nod along at you talking gubbins and say yes dear?
