To want more from travel agent

Back in October I booked a holiday with a well known group of independent travel agents. All confirmed and paid for.
Arrived yesterday.....the hotel I had loved and so booked had no knowledge of my booking and were full. My agent was on the phone to head office trying to find out what had happened. Still not 100% on that. Hotel said I could have room from today (day 2 of holiday).
I then had to stay in an alternative hotel.... paid for by travel company there and then. This wasn't sorted out until several hours after I'd arrived so wasn't able to go anywhere.
Day 2, original hotel said my booking had been cancelled. So another call to my agent. Eventually new hotel (nice but not same standard) booked.
Travel agents head office have offered £150 compensation (hotel + flights around £750). Would you want more considering spoilt holiday... wasting time etc (only here Tues- Sat), should I go through ABTA complaints procedure...am I just a greedy cow?

Yes you should go through the complaints procedure and no, you're not a greedy cow. I'd be aiming for 100% or at the very minimum 75% of total cost back.

£450 compensation

Why could original hotel not reinstate your booking if they had a vacancy? You should be compensated for the disruption as well as any tariff difference between your booked and new hotel as a minimum.

It depends what the terms and conditions state have a look and then complain and get what you are entitled to. This happens alot for all sorts of reasons including it being the hotels fault so don't blame it all on them until it has been investigated.

I'm glad I'm not being seen as BU. I don't usually book through an agent so was unsure. It does seem that the accommodation agent the travel agency use are known in the city for being 'dodgy' in that they'll make bookings for properties that are overbooked/closed - this came from the manager of Hotel number 2.
I think I'll find out the rates for the current hotel and go from there.... Thanks for answering

Yep! 💯 agree! Holidays are not cheap these days and most people are lucky to be able to afford one.
