I have decided that January needs advent calendars more than DEcember does

I was in hospital most of December, and didn't open my advent calendar. I am enjoying it so much now, that I have decided in future, all advent calendars wait until January. I think they might need a new name, though.

Jadvent

It would certainly make the month feel less longer.

Eminybob · 04/01/2023 17:39

I agree.
Several places do 12 days of Christmas ones, designed to be opened after Christmas, but 12 days is definitely not enough!

Great idea! Then all the posh calendars (which I can't afford just for fun) could be given as presents. What are we counting down to though, just the end of Jan or could we make it stretch all the way to Lent...?

TheProvincialLady · 04/01/2023 17:42

That is why it makes more sense to hold off on Christmas altogether until it is actually, you know, Christmas. Because January is grim as hell and needs all the trees, lights and treats it can get. I don’t understand this modern phenomenon of celebrating hallowe’en from the 1st of October, then straight into bonfire night (if at all) and Christmas. Then people are bored of it by Boxing Day FGS and there are 2-3 really horrible months to get through with nothing but shopping (apparently) to get people through.

I have officially declared my old age.

I am one of those poor unfortunate souls with a January birthday. A Jadvent calendar for that would be pretty good!

My mum had got me a M & S beauty advent box for Christmas. I’m opening it one day at time in January. It’s great.

Chowtime · 04/01/2023 18:07

Yep! As a PP said, it's called "Jadvent". Buy them half price after the start of advent and use them in January.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/01/2023 18:11

One year I had a Christmas baby and was already really struggling with pregnancy by October. I bought two advent calendars and had one through November which meant one nice thing happened each day.

I can't argue with one for January. Same logic.

Wonderful idea op! This one seems perfect for the gloomy month of January www.oliverbonas.com/christmas-gifts/25-days-of-wellness-beauty-advent-calendar-342131

Januwaiting

Just counting down days til it's lighter all the time.

SoMuchToBits · 04/01/2023 18:22

This is an idea I could get behind! Maybe next year I'll have the usual cardboard one in December, but treat myself to a Playmobil one for January...

wrongwayupandbacktofront · 04/01/2023 18:31

This is a genius idea, OP! It makes so much more sense.

I'm seriously going to think about making myself one for next year, but more winter solstice to imbolc (2nd? February).

Lots of self-care, treats, nature-based, light, fun, wholesomeness and loveliness. Save things up over the year and rediscover them again one-by-one.
