To be annoyed the Conservative government do not understand economy?

Way in the past Conservative governments used to be poor at running good public services, but good on the economy. This government is poor at both.

There appears to be no understanding or interest in how to boost our productivity. There appears to be no understanding of the crucial role manufacturing plays in boosting a countries productivity or even an understanding that without major government action Britain will not have a car industry in the near future.

Instead any policies seem to be about boosting a low wage, low employment rights, gig economy. This is the kind of thing people with poor economic literacy think will boost the economy. It doesn't. Instead it creates lower productivity rates and a failing economy as we try and compete with poor countries with a low wage economy.

I am despairing that this government is so awful at even the economy and instead is simply blaming international factors for their piss poor performance.

I'm not convinced they were good at running the economy, just funded everything by selling off public utilities.

CalistoNoSolo · 04/01/2023 12:04

They have always been excellent at lining their own pockets, jobs for their mates, selling the country's assets and fooling the electorate.

SavoirFlair · 04/01/2023 12:05

Why do you need the Conservatives to be good at anything @BradfordGirl - what about Labour?

Would you vote for a Labour government ?

BradfordGirl · 04/01/2023 12:05

Maybe you are both right, but at least on the surface they did say the right things most of the time. This government seem totally clueless about even basic economics.

@SavoirFlair I will be voting Labour. I don't see how anyone except the Trans obsessed cohort could vote anything else.

I think Corbyn would have been a disaster. But he is history and way in the past. Totally irrelevant.

They understand the economy, they just don’t want to do the things it takes to improve it in the way it really needs improving, because doing that would mean being unpopular with their donors and friends and of course curtail the lining of their own pockets.

All they do is just enough for a headline and a talking point just to make it look like they are effecting some sort of change and doing something when in reality they are doing nothing of the sort. It’s paper shuffling, blame shifting and just being generally useless whilst making themselves look busy. We’ve all worked a person like this, except that person is now the government, it’s a complete and utter farce!!!
