To thoroughly enjoy an evening spent with my kids

DCs 16 and 12. We were meant to go out but the party was cancelled (and we were in two minds anyway). Spent the evening playing games and genuinely laughing with them. Spending time with them as they grow into adults makes me realise they are 'my people' and I'm terrified of when they go!

I realise how lucky we are as they mostly get on well with each other too. Share your positive stories of this evening with me. HNY to you all

YANBU all 3 of mine managed to stay awake! Even the little one and they just danced and sang and laughed. It was actually amazing.
I thought I'd miss the nights out but this is what I'm going to miss when I can go out again.

I love this age, when they start to be, to inhabit, the person they will become. I must say to me it was a bit 'slipping through your fingers', too, then they are away, whoosh, we gave them roots to return to, and wings to fly.

There's a poem, called 'On Children' by Kahlil Gibran, where he speaks of parents: You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

Isn't that beautiful?

Happy New Year m'dear.

Mine are all grown now but my favourite times are when we are all together around the kitchen table . It’s wonderful and now we have a granddaughter in the mix !! Having all my chicks and their partners back under my roof equals bliss . And I don’t care who thinks I’m a sap

Just me and DH which has been fine - we watched 'Yesterday' on BBC1 then had the radio on for a while before The Bells; just relaxing now.

That's absolutely lovely, mine are 3 and 5 and i prefer their company over most friends and my husband if im completely honest 😂.

I know we will all be close and so i do have the odd panic thinking about them leaving me in years to come but hey, you're making great memories and creating strong bonds with them and thats brilliant, they will always come home and want to be around you as they will enjoy your company. Happy New Year.

we’ve had a lovely evening (me, DH and teen) watching Jurassic World:Dominion and then laughing/cringing at the various Hogmanay programmes 😊 I know she doesn’t really understand the Hogmanay thing, which makes me a bit sad - I remember family parties with first footers, and traipsing round houses with my parents visiting their friends, but it’s just different nowadays. I value the time spent just us together.

My two are 17 and 14, and we spent NYE at home, eating pizza and watching films. Perfect way to see in 2023. 🙂

Similar here! Mine are 10 and 12, and we’ve had a lovely evening eating good food, having insightful conversations and playing games. Truly a joy to see them both laughing so hard, and to see what interesting and delightful people they are growing up to be. I couldn’t have wished for a better way to bring in the New Year.
