The weather has been rubbish. We are usually a pretty outdoors family, walks, bike rides, outdoor adventure play, beach, woods, etc in all weathers.

We have all been ill, and I still am. I'm exhausted , have a bad chest, cough, sore throat. We had a full day out yesterday, but otherwise there has been more YouTube than I'm comfortable with.

Aibu to just think sod it for a quiet life?

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

AWaferThinMint · 30/12/2022 12:23

Do it. We have days like this. When everyone is flat and feeling grim and the weather is god awful. It's not like it's every day. Hope things perk up soon!

Bemyclementine · 30/12/2022 12:24

I'll add, I'm a single parent, I was off work for a week in December which helpfully was the same time dc1 was ill. They've been to their dad's 1 day over the hols so far
.

Take a cup of tea back to bed and stay there. Everyone else in the family can do as they choose. It’s only right once in a while and you’ve earned it

No excuses needed. It's fun to watch YouTube and play computer games all day.

NuffSaidSam · 30/12/2022 12:27

That's what betwixtmas is for!

Bemyclementine · 30/12/2022 12:41

Well that's made me feel better. Thanks. Yes, it is fun for them and they do need some downtime.

Carpet picnic commenced.

Of course it is fine, my ds2 spent most of yesterday on the Xbox, today it's a no console day and he and his brother are currently playing on our local soft play while I drink a coffee. Later they have plans to build one of their new Lego sets. It's all about balance in my opinion so I never feel guilty about days spent on screens especially if everyone is ill!

ChillysWaterBottle · 30/12/2022 12:45

Omg a once in a while indoor day is great for the soul. I was busy, sociable, healthy, did lots of walking and hobbies etc as a kid but I remember the N64 duvet days so fondly. Get some rest and feel better!

Jellycatspyjamas · 30/12/2022 12:46

Definitely, the kids need downtime too - a lazy day is not bad thing for all of you.

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/12/2022 12:57

Hell yes

kingofchaos · 30/12/2022 13:00

Don't buy into additional'mum guilt'.

Kids do not HAVE TO BE DOING something continuously.

I have a friend who ensures her chikd is DOING SOMETHING CONTINUOUSLY, and he looks pale, tired and miserable most of the time.

In fact he asks my DS to come to ours a lot so he can sit down, watch a film and not be CONTINUOUSLY DOING SOMETHING.

icanwearwhatiwant · 30/12/2022 13:02

Yep, no excuses or permission needed. The odd relaxing day is perfect. Plenty of time to be active when you feel better.

QueefQueen80s · 30/12/2022 13:10

We do this all the time so these threads make me 🤔😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/12/2022 13:12

Yes it’s definitely needed occasionally. Kids need downtime too!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/12/2022 13:13

Would be ideal if you could get them to do something non screen based some of the time, but if they’re older children/ teens this can be hard to achieve!

onmywayamarillo · 30/12/2022 13:13

My son got a ps5 for Christmas and currently playing it, with my I pad on you tube and FaceTiming his friend
He's having the time of his life 🤣

Detectorists · 30/12/2022 13:16

DS is still in his pyjamas playing Minecraft! To be fair, me and DH are packing up our house ready to move so there's little else for him to do!

taxguru · 30/12/2022 13:18

Doing nothing occasionally is absolutely fine.

It's when it's the norm that you've got a problem.

CoodleMoodle · 30/12/2022 13:22

We're having a screens day today. They've played video games with us, DS4 watched DD8 play on the VR, now he's typing on the PC and she's helping him. They watched TV at lunch and we may watch a film later.

We went to the park and shopping yesterday because it was a nice day, weather wise. Today is crap! We might go to the library if it lets up a bit but none of us can be bothered really. We're all getting over a nasty cough/cold, and in a few days they're back at school so there won't be so many screens anyway.

Malariahilaria · 30/12/2022 13:25

Absolutely, I thought this was actually the law during twixmas after all the scheduled fun, activities, visiting, planning and cooking?

MonkeyPuddle · 30/12/2022 13:25

We are having a TV day. Fuck any guilt.

Bemyclementine · 30/12/2022 13:27

They have pretty active lives with clubs abd hobbies, so it is nice to not be rushing about. They are still in pjs! They have done lego and puzzles for a bit too.

DD has been on Nintendo Switch most of the day. Yesterday we went to the park, then did arts and crafts in the afternoon. Tomorrow we have a family party. Today is a sweet FA day…
