With Covid or any of the viruses doing the rounds...

Has anyone had the glands in their neck all come up? I've woken up this morning with huge lumps on either side and a sore throat.

I know IABU to bother anyone about this, but I'm panicking because I haven't heard about anyone else having this with all the illnesses that are currently going around. And my natural assumption is that it's something awful!

Glandular fever?

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/12/2022 11:00

I've had swollen glands with the cold virus I came down with on 20 December. I'm absolutely fine now.

I've also occasionally had swollen glands with coldviruses in the past - over several decades and I've lived to tell the tale.

That's reassuring, thank you!

The reason I was/am worried was that they've swollen up like mini golf balls rather than just being a bit raised!

I get that with every cold virus without fail.

IndigoSkye · 30/12/2022 18:21

My dd had swollen glands with a nasty cold a few weeks back

ShirleyValentin3 · 30/12/2022 20:27

My DS came home for Christmas. Not unwell in the slightest - however, 2 days in he developed one huge swollen gland. It changed the shape of his face/profile.

It went on its own within a couple of days. So random, but must've been part of a bug he was fighting. I'm on my third illness of December (covid, flu & gastric bug), and haven't had flat glands in weeks!

SilverGlitterBaubles · 30/12/2022 20:34

Yes I had this last week, swollen gland under chin on one side which made me look like elephant woman. I had a slight scratchy throat and was a bit tired but no more than that really. It went away in a few days, but was this Covid who knows I didn't have any tests and frankly I didn't want to know.

kimchifix · 30/12/2022 20:36

I've just had this for a couple of days. Quite odd as do t normally get this with colds / flu but no aching back so think it's just a cold as had sinus issues too - co-op version of lemsip helped.

kimchifix · 30/12/2022 20:37

Also did a Covid test when feeling worst and it was negative.

chergar · 30/12/2022 20:50

Ive got this now, started Boxing Day, glands up, fever with vomiting, sore throat, terrible cough, headache, blocked/running nose. Just starting to get over it now, as in I can leave my bed and go to the living room, Covid test negative.

The cough is hellish though, I feel like there's loads of mucus to bring up but I can't cough deep enough

Jourdain11 · 30/12/2022 20:54

Ah, I'm sorry everyone is so sick. I'm selfishly a bit relieved that other people have the glands too though, I was a bit worried that I had sth weird going on!

This is fairly normal for respiratory infections. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it’s there weeks later.

rubydoobydoo · 30/12/2022 20:59

I've had the cold from hell that's going around at the moment - normally my glands at the back come up when I'm ill but the front ones decided to join them this time!
