To want to do something about my weight, before I gain anymore

JJ213 · 28/12/2022 22:45

Hi

So basically during 2020 I lost 4 stone. I went from 13st something and got down to 9st. I'm 5'6/7 ish. I did this through 16:8 intermittent fasting, reducing sugar etc and exercising.

I managed to stay around 9st until the last few months. I'd say over the last 4-5 months I've gone up to 10st 11. I'm still doing 16:8 and the exercise. But I'm gaining weight.

I've been thinking about doing something different such as joining slimming world or doing a vlcd to get the weight off asap.

I'm not sure how I'm gaining as my diet and everyday routine is the same.

I had a shock when I tried to get into my size 8 jeans a few months back.

So I'm now thinking whether to stay at the heavier weight or do something about it and get back down to 9 stone.

Any ideas?

If you're not happy at the heavier weight, change it.

VLCD work but if it's your eating habits, the weight will just come straight back on once you're back down to 9 stone and come off them.

Can you track what you're eating in MyFitnessPal or similar and calorie count?

I certainly want to be slimmer. I don't see why I am gaining though. I still do 16:8 fasting and I exercise. I do keep an eye on what I eat too.

I might try and write down or use my fitness pal to see what I am actually eating.

Might you be aiming for a weight that is just too low for you? The body does tend to find it's own balance.

whyhere · 29/12/2022 08:53

*its

The whole of 2021 I was a size 8 and 9stone. So I don't think it is.

But I do agree with you, when you say the body tends to find a weight it's comfortable with.

I’m 5 foot 2 and when I weigh 9stone I’m a size 8-10!! So I’d say at your height your nowhere near overweight and it would be very hard to maintain 9stone in the long run hence the gain is stick to being around the 10stone mark! Much more achievable without a miserable life! Xx

I'm not miserable. I actually found 16:8 worked for me, because I didn't really enjoy eating breakfast in the morning.

As for my weight, I was 9stone in 2021 and for some of 2022. It's only the last few months I've gained.

Quite upset really. I have a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit :(

I lost almost 6 stones between Sept 21 and Mar 22 but have put a couple of stones back in. I am stopping now and focusing on the healthy eating/psychology of weightloss/gain/dieting this time.
Someone on here recommended reading The Becks diet solution so I ordered from amazon(tip, get 2nd hand).
I am running a FB private support group starting 2nd Jan if you are interested. Absolutely no mlms or selling allowed, just support/encouragement and sharing of anything you find useful. You can follow any diet/exercise program. The more the merrier! Just drop me a pm.

Tigofigo · 29/12/2022 09:56

How old are you and has anything in your life changed?

That's quite a lot of weight to put on in 4 months after so long maintaining - 25lbs so more than a lb a week.

Eyesopenwideawake · 29/12/2022 09:56

How old are you? Perimenopausal might be an issue, as might an underactive thyroid. Both detectable with blood tests.

9st is a tad on the low side for your height though.

Claddyt · 29/12/2022 09:57

That’s annoying but for your height I really would say 10stone is a very good weight when I get down to 9 to maintain I have a limit of 1100 cals per day and it gets really quite tedious! In my 20s no issues didn’t even look at what I was eating! But somehow always stayed that! But if I want a treat at the weekend now I’d have to consume only 800 calories per day to save 300 per day could you do my fitness pal but put it on the setting where you aim for a 1pound loss? Xx

I'm 5'6 and at 10 stone would look fat - at 9 stone I'm definitely not thin in any way. Weight looks different on different people, I've always been "light" for my height.

I'm OPs height and at 11st2 was 1lb off overweight bmi. 9st is my comfortable weight, although I'm not sure I'd be an 8, more a 10.

No advice OP as my weight seems to be fluctuating wildly in the day, let alone over longer periods. I weighed myself at 9st 4, had a hot bath and lost 4lb, got up the next morning and was 9st5 Grin

Billslills · 29/12/2022 10:12

I am a similar age to you and I feel like this may be your body's way of saying this is a comfortable and maintainable weight for you.

I totally hear how depressing or frustrating it can be having a wardrobe of clothes which don't fit you but don't torture yourself! It doesn't mean you can't wear them again in the future but for now why not buy a few things you do feel good in?

I strongly recommend you find a way of life which is sustainable long term. I know when you feel shitty, its easy to rush off and cut calories as you're looking for a quick fix but I urge you to challenge yourself and take your time with this.

Why not spend the new few weeks tracking your foods and setting up a good routine whilst you shake off Christmas etc? Get in good sleep, lots of water, 3 + nutritious and balanced meals a day and daily walks to begin with. I believe you need a solid routine and base before you can start focusing attention on weight loss - just my opinion.

We all carry weight differently.

I know at 9stone I'm slim and I fit a size 8 in most clothes.

Currently squeezing into a 10.

I don't eat breakfast as I follow 16:8. I'll let you know what I eat today. I break my fast at around 1pm

Could your metabolism have slowed down, OP? I know someone with a thyroid condition who puts on weight very easily. Could be something like that?

OP, I could have written this.

I’m shorter than you but also lost a lot of weight to get down to 9 stone a few years ago. I haven't weighed myself but absolutely know for a fact that I’m 10 something now, most of my clothes don t fit.

In my case, losing the weight was easy enough, but maintaining is very, very hard. It takes strict discipline to stay where I was. I stopped weighing myself and took my eye off the ball, and the weight creeped up.

I’m absolutely determined to get it back down.

Good luck!

JJ213 · 29/12/2022 18:40

Around 1pm I had a tuna salad sandwich and a banana. I also had a bowl of porridge too.

I've just eaten homemade chicken curry with rice and a naan bread.
