What was your least liked present/biggest waste of money this year?

So I bought a magical mixies cauldron. It looked amazing! It made noises, it smoked, a toy popped out. Then Water spread all over the counter. Four year old asked to go again, but you can’t unless you spend a fortune on extra packs (which I didn’t!). Toy was a bit wet and she immediately lost interest. Definitely not worth the £50 I spent on it. So what’s your biggest waste of money this year?

Full of the Christmas spirit I see!

Op that sounds like a rip off what a shame YoH can only do it once. Hope you e had a nice day apart from that and pp is the only miserable bastard youve encountered!

BarbaraVineFan · 25/12/2022 19:04

@SavoirFlair who pissed on your Christmas chips?! No need for that.

@ChristmasyCrackery that's so annoying, I saw those advertised and I agree they looked so cool! What a let down.

My DD is only 3, not quite at pestering stage, so I could get away with buying toys I chose for her, but I was a bit disappointed by her underwhelmed reaction to a lovely magnetic theatre I bought which I thought she would love with all the little characters and backdrops etc! Hoping it was just the excitement of all the presents and she will start playing with it properly after Christmas.

??? Christ almighty, lighten up you miserable sod. Did someone shit in your stocking?

Slimjimtobe · 25/12/2022 19:08

Totally valid post op - don’t know why someone wrote that. I have made many mistakes in the past so thankfully no waste of money this year (any fad type thing I bought direct cheaply direct) and we spent money on a garden toy that will last for years

PumpkinDart · 25/12/2022 19:09

Ah my daughter had one and absolutely loved it, no water leaking from hers!

Everything I bought my 2 year old as she only wants to play with my remote control 😂

Slimjimtobe · 25/12/2022 19:10

😂at remote control
after unwrapping all from santy our seven year old took a piece of paper and a pencil and started drawing. it’s the simple things they like

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2022 19:16

Seems @SavoirFlair seems to have received a bad attitude for Chrisrmas. Xmas Sad

@ChristmasyCrackery that sounds crap, reminds me of the Golden Coin Maker from when mine were little-very disappointing.

Soubriquet · 25/12/2022 19:18

The refill packs aren’t that expensive. £10 each and usually on offer. You get two refills in them.

I bought it for dd last year. The actual mixie she’s not interested in but she likes watching the cauldron go.

She actually prefers the little mixlings instead

Nsky62 · 25/12/2022 19:19

Present bought for cat, to chase ball in, took a look and promptly went out!
at 13, too much trouble!

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/12/2022 19:34

Ds2 birthday earlier in the year. He never asks for anything, is usually happy with what he receives, easy going, laid back young adult so we tried something a little different to clothes or money for his 21st.

I'm not sure if he'll ever book in to use the helicopter flying lesson.

murasaki · 25/12/2022 19:37

Waste of money towards, my in laws. They refuse to believe I don't like sweet things, but normally get something I can pass onto their son.
Turkish delight is a deal breaker for both of us.

Seriously, what is so awful in your life that you have to reply like this. I feel really sorry for you. It must be all consuming.

ChristmasyCrackery · 25/12/2022 20:43

Ooh thank you @Soubriquet ! I’ll have a look online and see what I can do! Not going to lie, her favourite present was the fancy dress outfit in was given for free by a friend 🤦🏼‍♀️
