To use my slow cooker to keep food warm tomorrow

This is not a AIBU really, I just want to know if other people do this? I have a hot plate/chaffing dish but have a lot to keep warm and thought I could just chuck my cooker roasties or stuffing in the slow cooker on the low setting so that they would keep warm while people are dishing their food up (we do ours buffet style). Would this work? I will turn it off as soon as we have all dishes up!

I would with anything other than meat

I wouldnt have thought its big enough and they'll go all steamed and mushy?

It will literally be for five minutes while we are dishing up 😊 I'm going to try it but probably with the stuffing 😊

I keep stuff in the oven turned off, or the kitchen top to be honest, the whole kitchen is boiling by then. Also I have those candle warmer things on the table and things stay hot on them

Don't do it with the roasties as they will go soggy. They also retain their heat very well. It's fine with the veg and stuffing though.

@Mangogogogo Why not the meat - I was thinking about doing this with my roast beef.

I have a triple slow cooker for exactly this reason, OP.

I pre-cook carrots, sprouts etc and then keep warm on low in the same way as a hostess trolley,

Anything that needs to stay crunchy, I grease the pot with a little oil and salt, put it on hot for a while without the lid on, then stick in the potatoes, stuffing, whatever.

With my big slow cooker i also make a foil 'dam' down the middle so I can put two different things in without mixing up.

Makes prep and dishing up so easy.

I'm going cauliflower cheese in one of the pots this year, and then blow torching the top to make the cheese bubble - boom!

I'm going to do this with my gravy, purely to free up a hob place.
