to believe petrol prices are falling like a feather

Petrol and diesel prices should be at least 10p lower to get back to pre-Ukraine margins. The retailers (and to be fair, refiners) are ripping us off.

We need more competition on forecourts. Supermarkets used to use petrol as a loss leader to get people into the stores, but now seem to view it as a bumper profit centre and seem to be acting more as a cartel.

Costco are the only major company to charge fair prices at the moment, and because you need to be a member this doesn't affect other prices too much.

It’s 149.7 by me. I don’t recall it being any lower in the last few years

It was 1.23 in 2021 and 1.19 in 2020.

People have short memories.

Coldilox · 23/12/2022 10:52

I just filled up for 140.7ppl

I was about 10 miles from home, noticed the price and went in. Lowest local to me is 147.9 ppl

LargeDeviation · 23/12/2022 10:56

Remember there is a temporary 5p cut in fuel duty too - that seems to have been swallowed up by the retailers.

Ukraine isn't over. There are still supply issues. And OPEC has reduced production. There are problems, but it's not at the forecourt side.

Quite obviously it is on the forecourt side. Our local Tesco has priced unleaded at 9p a litre more than the Tesco 15 miles up the road. It’s blatant profiteering.

JustFrustrated · 23/12/2022 11:42

According to RAC fuel should be about 15p cheaper than it is at the moment.

Diesel has finally dropped to 171 here.

It's depressing that makes me happy.

Blimey - that is good. It's still 179.9p here!

Petrol is 147.9p.

There was a time recently when the difference between diesel and petrol narrowed, but I've now never seen such a big gap.

healthadvice123 · 23/12/2022 11:47

Morrisons is cheaper than tescos etc by us but a morrison up the road as near a majpr road is about 10 pm more

Pixiedust1234 · 23/12/2022 11:47

Just filled up at Asda at 150.? a litre. Its 160.7 at Sainsburys one mile away, and that had gone up from 158.7 on Wednesday. Robbing gits.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/12/2022 11:53

I noticed Asda was £1.49 for unleaded yesterday but a couple of days previously, I had paid £1.56 for the same at Sainsburys. It's most definitely profiteering.

Salamander91 · 23/12/2022 11:54

We're at 139.9 here but that was a few days ago not sure if it's changed.

WildOats5678 · 23/12/2022 12:02

1.33 here for petrol and 1.57 for diesel at a local garage. Their prices are calculated daily so they can try to lower prices

bigbluebus · 23/12/2022 12:14

135.9 for unleaded and 157.9 for diesel at our local independent. They are consistently at least 10p per litre cheaper than supermarkets. Even our other usually more expensive filling station is cheaper than supermarkets atm. I drove past Tesco petrol station the other evening around 6pm) and there were only 2 cars on the forecourt. The store car park was rammed.
Our local independent collects his own fuel daily so price fluctuates frequently but always cheaper than the big boys.

LivIoe · 23/12/2022 12:15

1.34 petrol here, 1.69 diesel cheapest, 1.67/1.91 up the road. Prices here vary the most I’ve ever seen. Loads at the cheap end, loads charging high.

LargeDeviation · 08/01/2023 20:32

Still over £1.50 here.

FestivePinkFairy · 08/01/2023 20:43

150.9 for petrol and 173.9 for diesel. That's at the local Tesco in the far south west. Feel like we're being ripped off compared to other areas.

Goingforplatinum · 08/01/2023 20:46

I paid 1.70 today for diesel in Gloucestershire. Its 1.72 in my local area. Its quite sad really about how happy this made me.

Blossomtoes · 08/01/2023 21:05

You’re going to hate me - I paid £1.40 last Monday.

donttellmehesalive · 08/01/2023 21:14

I paid £1.40 today but ten miles down the road passed a station selling unleaded for £1.75. Huge variation at the moment.
