Christmas and hearing from people who forgot you all year

Does anyone else get these kind of messages around Christmas time;

Hi! Not seen you in ages, but hope you’re ok. If you’re around for a drink before Christmas let me know! x

And you think hang on, it’s been 7 months since we spoke and Christmas is in 4 days. Are they driven by some kind of weird Christmas nostalgia? I mean I am always up for a Christmas drink and it’s nice to see people, but it’s in 4 days time and all the days are now taken with people who actually talk to me all year round!

And if you send these messages, is it because you want to see the person, or feeling Christmassy or what?

People are busy with family life etc, maybe at Christmas they have a bit more spare time to catch up with people they don't see much.

There are loads of people I still care about enough to have a drink that I don't speak to over the course of months or even years.

I feel like I’m there to make up their jolly Christmas numbers. I’m free most of the year but 4 days before Christmas, I’ve probably already made plans!

Because it's a time people have drinks and so people may be up for a gathering. Also people go back to the parental home so you may have people conveniently in the same place who live nowhere near each other.

How many times in the last year have you contacted them asking for a meet up?

Christmas is a nice excuse to spend time with people you don’t see as often as you’d like to. I honestly think that these people are genuinely fond of you.

Exactly.

In one case, several times. Maybe 6.
Three are exes so that’s a firm no.
One is a close friend I saw a lot of until she got a new boyfriend in June.
