Minor AIBU - DP and I disagree about what belongs in the living room

I've been doing a pre-Christmas tidy and it is bugging me (possibly unreasonably) that DP seems to have decided that kettlebells and a plastic exercise roller (the sort you put on the floor and roll your back against to help you stretch) belong on permanent display in the living room. We have a reasonably-sized house; we're not tight on space. I wouldn't mind if these things were tucked under the sofa out of site (where they could join the yoga mats DP keeps there).

AIBU to say exercise stuff doesn't need to be on display?

If you have decent space then, no it should be elsewhere or at least out of sight. I say that though, but I’ve just spotted my husband’s foam roller sitting next to the TV FFS, maybe we have the same husband.

I have mine in a living toom visible but in a corner.

I mean like it's a house, not a national gallery. Why couldn't part of a normal living be visible.

Wouldn't (and don't) have them on display unless I absolutely had to. I'm in a flat and mine, together with yoga mat, are tucked in a corner behind a large armchair so in the lounge but out of sight.
Tell him to find a hidey place for them.

Yes, it's not necessary to have a non-argument before Christmas; that's why AIBU is so useful in terms of giving a bit of perspective.

I know it's a house not a National Gallery - but equally, it's not a gym, is it?

My husband has most the double garage, his office, some bits like the roller in the bedroom. I draw the line at living room and dining room. No. It isn't a gym. (He can bring the roller down to use if he wants....but then back upstairs.....)

And was the conversation 'why haven't you got divorced yet'?!

I expect I should count myself lucky I don't have to deal with rowing machines (or bike gear).

My Pilates mat and foam roller are in the cupboard under the stairs, as are my weights. My yoga mat is in my wardrobe, as I do yoga in my bedroom. YANBU, use stuff, then put it away. Glad I live on my own.

If they are used regularly in that room, then yes have them there. I am all for practical over looks. However if only used weekly for 30mins then move them.

I've no issue with the being in here. I just want her to tuck them out of sight (eg., under the sofa) rather than having them proudly displayed like weird modern art (or, in reality, like very heavy things I stub my toe on).

I don't know, if you use them regularly why shouldn't they be out? I find keeping things like this out reminds you to use them and if you put them away you don't use them as much any more. It's good to stay fit and healthy, isn't it?

It's living room. It's like wanting to put away dining chairs when not in use ...

My husband keeps his in the living room but they're behind the couch most of the time. Either way it's not something I could get too worked up over.

No, DH does this with all his camera equipment, so it's ready if he needs to take a photo, he has to be told to keep it upstairs out of the way

However I have bridles hanging in my entry so I acknowledge that I am a hypocrite for saying it. 😂

Oh I used to have my kettlebells AND exercise bike in the living room. It used to be the only room with both the space for me to work out and with a decent soundsystem for my workout playlist. DP disapproved of the kettlebells but had to acknowledge there was nowhere else for the exercise bike to go.

The exercise bike broke, then we moved house and I work out in the spare room now. Everyone's happy.

Yeah, this. As long as they're not in the middle of the floor and therefore a trip hazard does it really matter if people can see them?

We have similar discussions about the garage, which I think is the place for the random shit I don’t want in my house but he likes to keep clean and neat and immaculate by storing it all in the house 🤷‍♀️
