AIBU to want to buy Christmasy food

Yes, I know I'm being unreasonable, but I'm putting together my Christmas food shop for delivery tomorrow. This was the closest delivery date I could get.

It's not even Christmas till Sunday. Then it goes on for 12 days.

So why are all the Christmasy themed food and snacks out of stock or reduced to clear now, an entire week in advance?

I live alone, by myself. I won't be cooking a turkey, or anything big that needs preordered. I don't have much storage space, so I have to buy food close to when I want to eat it.

So why can I not even buy a bag of festive lebkuchen or some nuts to cheer myself up with? What are the supermarkets doing?

They don’t want to left with a load of stock on the 26th that no one wants.

QueefQueen80s · 19/12/2022 21:36

It's annoying isn't it. Like how I can't get Halloween stuff a few days before the 31st or sparklers on bonfire night.

SavingKitten · 19/12/2022 21:36

Doesn’t most of the festive food usually get pre ordered for Christmas delivery slots? I’m sure everyone was queueing for Christmas slots weeks ago

Pixiedust1234 · 19/12/2022 21:37

I hear you.

Its probably under the same commercial reasoning as only being able to buy swimwear in winter and wellies in summer.

This stuff has been in my basket for weeks, but it doesn't actually preorder it.

It's all showing as out of stock now.

I was in Sainsbury's today and there was loads of festive food available, you could try going in?

Cassillero · 19/12/2022 21:40

Asda have Xmas food. Don't know if that's any good for you? I did a shop today for Wednesday delivery. There were no slots after Wednesday though.

That might be worth a try, actually, thanks - I'd forgotten about Asda, they're not local, but I think they do deliver here.

Which supermarket is that? Often it's out of stock to order any more but they will have allocated it for you if it's been in your preorder for weeks.

Yeah it's not my favourite but Sainsburys didn't have any delivery slots and couldn't face going into the store as really busy with work this week. No bloody large eggs though so hope you don't want those!

Tesco. I can't see anything about that - they normally just remove it from my basket automatically when I checkout again.

Went shopping this morning, Asda, Tesco. OH went to Lidl. There's plenty of everything on the shelves. One staff member had just finished the night shift at 11am.

I think it's very brave to do a Christmas online order. I'd be too anxious in case of something going awry. Just want it tucked up in my house 😂

ImSoConfusedAboutItAll · 19/12/2022 21:51

As per my username... I'm so confused! Why would Christmas food be out of stock this week? As someone said above asda has everything including turkey to add to my basket and I can get a click and collect slot up to Friday this week and delivery up until Thursday. What supermarket is that?

OnlyFannys · 19/12/2022 21:57

Asda near me have some amazing looking chocolate Christmas pudding cakes that I wanted for xmas.day but all the use by dates say 22nd December 🤦‍♀️ really annoying

Chouetted · 19/12/2022 21:58

Thanks all for the advice and the ASDA recommendation. They've got slots for Wednesday, and actually have stuff in stock, so I think I'm going to hold tight on the Tesco order, see what actually turns up, and fill in the gaps from ASDA.

loads in the shops here, normally I don't food shop till 1-2 days before hand

sinkyt · 19/12/2022 22:07

went to m&s today & loads of stuff was expiring on the 23rd

Dixiechickonhols · 19/12/2022 22:10

Lots of Christmas goodies in Aldi or Lidl. Lidl especially I imagine it will all be reduced. The 12 days of Christmas thing isn’t really done now it seems to be trees down a few days after.
For Christmas biscuits etc I’d buy in advance and store in a bedroom etc.

fairgame84 · 19/12/2022 22:14

I think it's a tesco thing.
I couldn't order any lebkuchen for my delivery this week but there was loads in my local store today. Loads of stuff not available online but they have it in store.

daffodilandtulip · 19/12/2022 22:21

I think it's easier to go in. And I never thought I'd say that.

I couldn't get any of the roses etc chocolate tubs or packets, no Christmas cakes, no mince pies, no schloer, no j20, no cream. Went into store and there's rows and rows of it.

justasking111 · 19/12/2022 22:23

I agree about the dates ASDA had a lot of stock with an expiration date of 22nd this morning

sinkyt · 19/12/2022 22:27

This isn't true of where I live. My council doesn't start collecting xmas trees until 2/3 of Jan.
