To think I might have conceived despite morning after pill??

I’m in a bit of a panic and hoping for some (non- judgemental) advice. I had a DS2 7 months ago and have been EBF with no periods, no fertile mucus, no libido nothing. BUT I stopped BF-ing 6 weeks ago for various reasons and had a day or so’s bleed soon after (lighter and shorter than normal period). 2 nights ago, about 28 days after that bleed, I had sex with DH and we neglected to use protection. I initially felt fairly relaxed about it given I was on day 28 but then realised I couldn’t be sure whether my cycle had normalised yet post-BF-ing, so really I couldn’t be sure when ovulation occurred. So I hot-footed it to the chemist and took EllaOne the morning after. But now I’m having some egg-white-type cervical mucus. Now, the only times I’ve noticed this mucus before is either when I’ve been ovulating or shortly after I got pregnant with DS1. Is it possible I’ve conceived? Or can this type of mucus occur for other reasons (eg just before period starts or as
a side-effect of EllaOne)??? Would appreciate your honestly but please don’t judge me for my sleep-deprived contraception slip-up!

The morning after pill is not all that effective. I think if you’ve already ovulated, it won’t work. I hope you’re not pregnant, good luck.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/emergency-contraception/

You can get a coil fitted as emergency contraception up to 5 days after unprotected sex.

heldinadream · 18/12/2022 15:52

EllaOne works by preventing ovulation, so if you've already ovulated it won't have worked OP.

Gazelda · 18/12/2022 15:53

It's possible you've conceived, yes. How do you feel about that?

Figgygal · 18/12/2022 15:55

How long ago did this happen op? Could you test to put your mind at rest?

Worriedworrior · 18/12/2022 16:08

@Gazelda I feel very anxious tbh as I’m not sure we could cope with a third but also not sure how I’d feel about a termination or how easy it is to get an early one…
@Figgygal it literally happened three days ago so too early to test.
@piglet81 no idea how you access an emergency coil appointment. I’ve been on a wait list for a (non-emergency) coil from my GP for 6 months and still no appointment. Assume I’d have given birth by the time I finally got one 😅

My morning after pill failure is turning 17 next month! 😂 I took it 3 days after which could have affected its efficacy.

Hankunamatata · 18/12/2022 16:28

Get onto local gum clinic and family planning and gp. Someone will fit you an emergency iud

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 18/12/2022 16:33

Op if you live near me and ring your GP they will give you a telephone appointment to discuss your problem in a weeks time!!

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 18/12/2022 16:37

I have a 15 year old and a 13 year old morning after pill baby. It happens!!!

lurkinglittleladybug · 18/12/2022 16:39

Yes morning after pill only works before ovulation, if you have already ovulated it won’t work

Xmassprout · 18/12/2022 16:39

It can be normal just before you period too. I always get it during ovulation and within about 2 days before my period starts

Whattodo182 · 18/12/2022 16:42

It's entirely plausible your period cycle hasn't settled yet. But you know as well as anyone the only way to know for sure is a pregnancy test.

LBFseBrom · 18/12/2022 16:43

It's possible. Wait the necessary time, then do a test.

catmum88 · 18/12/2022 17:00

I conceived despite taking the morning after pill within 12 hours. It was an ectopic pregnancy - not to alarm you but please keep your eye on symptoms of ectopic just in case. Hope all goes well for you.
