To ask your tips on finding out whether a house/ neighbourhood has a history?

We are interested in buying a house. It has been on the market for around nine months and the agent let slip that it has never had any offers on it. Apart from that, it is a beautiful home and has had a fair bit of work doing to it buy the current owners, including rewriting and a new roof.

We have had a relative who is a builder come and look at the house with us and he feels the house is pretty sound and shouldn’t throw up any major issues. It’s well priced for the area, so what is the issue?? This is would be our long-term home and we would be going pretty close to the absolute maximum we have to spend. How would you go about finding out if it’s a social issue as opposed to a house issue?

Might be worth knocking on a couple of neighbours' doors to ask about something like what the wi-fi / broadband is like in the area, (which the EAs wouldn't know about but could feasibly be an important factor to you) and try and see if you come across anyone chatty enough to give you an impression ?
