I am waiting in urgent care as I have to most terrible sore throat on one side, big white patch on that side. Can barely swallow my own spit. Im already on clarithromycin and ciprofloxacin for nasty ear infection in both ears that didn't respond at all (actually spread!) with amoxicillin, that started not Friday gone, the one before. How the hell can I have a throat infection whilst im on 2 strong antibiotics already!? Im miserable and worried. Anyone got any ideas? Please keep me company i cant even weep self pityingly due to the pain 😂🙈

Could be a yeast infection of some kind, or maybe a tonsil stone thingy "spreading"?
Hopefully you will get seen soon and they can get you some relief! It's horrible when you just have to sit and suffer 😥

Vallmo47 · 18/12/2022 08:34

Hope you are seen soon OP, sounds so painful. 😢

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 18/12/2022 08:36

A Christmas meme to cheer you up op..

AIBU to ask you to keep me company and maybe diagnose me?!
Tryfull · 18/12/2022 08:39

Quinsy?

Choconut · 18/12/2022 08:41

I had a really, really horrible sore throat with covid but found strepsils really helped so I'd recommend getting some to get you through in the mean time with the sore throat.

ThreeLittleDots · 18/12/2022 08:43

Strep throat

scater · 18/12/2022 08:44

Any chance the antibiotics have given your oral thrush? I had this happen and it was horrid. Hope they get you sorted.

BCBird · 18/12/2022 08:45

Big hand hold to u. I hope you get some relief.

Mydogsbetterthanyours · 18/12/2022 08:46

Love the meme 😂

Thanks everyone trying to cheer me up and keep me company.

Do you think strep? But im on 2 really strong antibiotics...

The person who said yeast/thrush, yes I have a feeling it might be. My breath smells sour (im wearing a mask in Urgent care), anyone know if that's a sign?

SweetSakura · 18/12/2022 08:50

That sounds totally miserable!! I hope you are seen soon
I rang 111 last night about my son and finally had the call back this morning and when they asked for his date of birth I was so sleepy after looking after my son all night told the doctor our address instead Grin

Mydogsbetterthanyours · 18/12/2022 08:57

Hahaha that made me chuckle 😂

Im checked in now and sat waiting to be triaged.

Another one..

Stupidbonfire · 18/12/2022 09:04

Yep that’s a quinsy I’m sure! I’ve had one twice. Absolute agony. Have to spit out all your spit. is basically mega bad tonsillitis with a big pus filled infection.
They’ll give you intravenous antibiotics in hospital. Unfortunately the once’s that make you puke. The bit quinsy will start feeling better within hours.

good luck, poor you

Stupidbonfire · 18/12/2022 09:05

The stinky sour breath and hot potatoes voice are classic signs

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 18/12/2022 09:12

I had a quinsy when I was 16, couldn't swallow my own spit, also had a dangerously high temperature and it was weather just like this and had me in a hospital gown, no bed covers and the windows open to cool me down. Then a doctor got some long scissors and snipped it off. [1980s health care ha). I had to get tonsils out after that because they couldn't risk me getting another one.
Hope you're seen to quickly, it's horrible if it is that

elliesmummy19 · 18/12/2022 09:20

I had quincy as a child. Horrendous. I’ve never been so ill. I was hallucinating. Ended up being rushed to hospital in an ambulance because I couldn’t breathe. Bleak.

I hope you get seen quickly and you’re feeling better soon!

Mydogsbetterthanyours · 18/12/2022 09:25

Thanks everyone. I have to say i dont think its a quinsy, my husband has had one and im sure its not that. The white streak is in my throat not my tonsil. I have really small tonsils too. Sitting here with this mask on smelling my own sour breath my moneys on thrush, but we'll see!

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 18/12/2022 09:30

I’d guess viral throat infection.

I also have the worst sore throat I’ve ever had. Made me weep when I woke up.
I have Covid so presume it’s just part of that ☹️

hope they can give you something for the pain, feel better soon 💐

StickofVeg · 18/12/2022 09:52

Maybe it could be oral thrush which will have been made worse by the anti-biotics unfortunately. Good luck - I'd say gargle with salt water regularly, get some strong oral thrush treatment from the doctor and consider taking something to improve your gut (eg. Symprove).

elliesmummy19 · 19/12/2022 17:37

How did you get on, OP?

Iam4eels · 19/12/2022 17:39

If they do give you the throw-up antibiotics, ask them for an anti-emetic alongside. It helps.

anywinewilldonow · 19/12/2022 18:47

@Mydogsbetterthanyours

How did you get on OP? I ask because my 18 year old DD is on her second course of antibiotics for a chest infection and now has an extremely sore throat with white patches on one side (and that tonsil is bigger than the other one).

Hope you are feeling better x

Mum233 · 19/12/2022 21:31

Strange I know but this is how I felt with COVID. Only anti virals helped me then x

Mydogsbetterthanyours · 20/12/2022 08:11

Thanks so much everyone for your company and advice. Ended up in a&e. They think glandular fever with bacterial infection on top. Perked up after some IV meds and they sent me home with a Santa's sack of medication 🤣

Merry Xmas everyone!
