What to wear for DS22 graduation next month

My son is graduating next month and I’m at a loss of what to wear. Want to look nice but not overly dressed so what kind of dress/colours should I aim for as want to blend in as well with other families there. Was thinking maybe a dress or skirt but not sure what length & what kind of top to wear with a skirt. Many thanks everyone for any ideas.

I had a winter graduation, quite a few women had either a pinafore style dress or a smart skirt (big checks were in I think) and jumper.

I wore this at my son’s graduation in November

My mum just wore her normal smart clothes. You’re not going to stand out unless you wear a peacock dress or a Liz Hurley safety PIN number! You’ll have your coat on most of the time if it’s in January. I would say wear layers, then you can be comfortable. Maybe a wool dress or trousers/skirt with a top and light jumper. I’ve had 3 graduations and I’ve never noticed what people wear - the ones that matter are in the gowns!! Not that you don’t matter, just meant that the focus will be on them. My parents were just focussed on the day, and my mum is a bit of a fashionista with opinions, and she’s never commented on what others were wearing to graduation!
