For an hour at 8pm?

I wouldn't but I wouldn't be outraged if I heard of another parent doing this.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/12/2022 19:10

My knee jerk answer is no, but what are the details? Will you be next door or across town?

thaegumathteth · 16/12/2022 19:11

Are they both yours? I'd probably do it if they were sensible but wouldn't leave someone else's kid without checking if that was ok.

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/12/2022 19:12

If they’re reasonably sensible 11 year olds I think that’s fine. How far away would you be?

Supernormative · 16/12/2022 19:13

No problem at all if they are fairly sensible. I don't understand parents today who won't leave their kids alone for a minute.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2022 19:14

Depends how sensible they are!

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 16/12/2022 19:14

Your 2 11 year olds, who are happy to be left, and ideally have been left alone before? Fine.

Your 11 year old primary school child, with a friend over for a sleep over? Not fine.

Your 11 year old secondary child, with a friend over, probably fine if they are hay to be left.

As always, the devil is in the detail.

londonrach · 16/12/2022 19:14

Depends on the children but I'd go for no at 11.

NosyNeighbour22 · 16/12/2022 19:15

I would if I was going to be somewhere close by and the kids would be able to contact me if needed.

greensnail · 16/12/2022 19:15

Sounds fine to me. I would have left both mine at age 11, if it was not my 11 year old I would check with the parents first as not all would be ok at that age.

SpicyFoodRocks · 16/12/2022 19:15

Sensible 11 year olds who know how to contact you? Fine.

Ponoka7 · 16/12/2022 19:16

How independent/sensible are they and are there any friends/family close by? Have they been left before?

Whoopsywoo · 16/12/2022 19:21

Mine and another (whose parents are ok with it)
mum dropping someone home who lives 5 mins away and popping to corner shop

both very sensible
I have surroundings neighbours who we know very well

Whoopsywoo · 16/12/2022 19:21

Also all have phones on

OP posts:
Neolara · 16/12/2022 19:23

I think that sounds fine. Lots of 11 year olds are independently taking themselves back and forth to school.

Workyticket · 16/12/2022 19:27

Absolutely fine

Ds is almost 11. Him and a pal or 2 come home from school, let themselves in, eat all the stuff asks then snarl at me to feed them when we get in from work (around 2 hours)

Dh had to com and pick me up from work because of the train strikes. Ds stayed home on his tod - chatting on xbox.

Workyticket · 16/12/2022 19:27

**Eat all the snacks

Whoopsywoo · 16/12/2022 19:30

Thank feel like I’m questioning this as it’s 8pm but I’d be back by 8.30!
they walk to and from school together

Tiredalwaystired · 16/12/2022 19:41

Sounds fine to me. It’s not like you’re miles away.

Reindear · 16/12/2022 19:43

It would be fine. They’re 11 not 5. I wouldn’t hesitate

Fantina · 16/12/2022 19:46

No problem for me and my DC with the caveats you’ve answered - other parent is happy, DC are happy and they know what to do if they need an adult fast.

SpinningFloppa · 16/12/2022 19:47

It’s fine

ChillysWaterBottle · 16/12/2022 19:49

Sounds fine to me

DeathMetalMum · 16/12/2022 19:51

Yes fine. Dd1 is 11 and lets herself in after school one afternoon a week and is home about an hour while dp does the school run for dd2.

Malariahilaria · 16/12/2022 19:52

Fine for me too. My 11 ds is walking himself to secondary school and back daily with a Friday deviation to a sweet shop and the park on Fridays. 30 mins home, he'd barely notice I was gone. We have done drills on fire, doorbell ringing, how to call for help and which neighbours to run to.
